Old Vans

Vans always used to be replaced before they were too old and clapped out for rural duties but now there appears to be no replacements and they just carry on until they fall apart.
Does anyone on here know if there's any policy on how many years RM vans are likely to be retained for ?

In our area it is supposed to be 3 years for small vans and 4 years for big vans but we now have some which are 6 years+ old. To be fair if they were properly maintained it should not be a problem to keep vans for much longer than 3/4 years anyway. The maintainence standards at our local VSW are so bad I would personally consider it to be quite dangerous.

i drive a ldv 9 years old with 90 thou on the clock ,its a wreck brake seized on one side 3 weeks ago and know it had to go in again with break failure.i had to overshoot my turning because it wouldnt stop in time with foot to floor.

Refuse to drive it if any fault can be found with it it is better a job not done than end up a statistic for royalmails failure!.

Intresting one.At my localish car auctions,in one set area are loads of 3-5 year old royal mails vans,B.T,DHL,you name it its probably there.So there must be some sort of turn around going on.Mileage? out of warranty?.

I was on collections last week and spoke to the driver from the mail centre. His 3.5 tonne truck had done half a million miles, couldnt engage 3rd gear and all 4 tyres must have been past the legal limit. 2 looked like racing slicks.
