I agree but I'm also quite worried that the 'lump sum brigade' will not see past the pound signs like in 2007. I was so pissed we lost the vote in 07 I left the union for a brief period before my rep made me realise that was a stupid thing to do. The trouble is the union are actually recommending this as a good deal. What are they thinking?!

They are not thinking cos they dont have to deliver all the d2d`s we gonna get and still walking the streets till 3 and 4 o clock on a saturday.

The working conditions proposed would lead to widesprerad injury and ill-health (longer heavier walks), less time with families at weekends, less money.

To answer the question a NO vote will mean a return to negotiation as RM can't realistically go executive after the first refusal.

I hope to Christ the majority see sense and vote no. I've got an awful feeling that it is going to be close run thing though- with the balance tipping towards yes. I know there are a lot of people in our small office who will be voting yes as they have all loudly stated their intention of packing the job in within the next year or so- so they will be thinking they'll get a nice bonus and then sod off into retirement leaving the rest of us to deal with hell we've been left with for the rest of our working lives (or at least until after the three years is up and RM announce that they are in even further dire-straits and will be making the job somehow even worse).
I am frankly both appalled and astonished at the CWU taking so long to negotiate over such a god-awful "deal." They clearly seem to be as out of touch with the workforce as higher management is. My postion before the strikes remains unchanged: I don't care how much money they offer if I'm going to be breaking my back day in, day out. I'd rather have a fair workload than any payrise at all.

Its hard to predict what the result of the ballot will be, but judging by the reaction of staff in our office(and that includes people who before were reluctant to strike) then if the vote was today a NO VOTE would get a large majority.

It is clear the leadership is gonna try and get in our heads over the next fortnight and convince us that this agreement is the only sensible option.There is stuff in the agreement that they can hang their hat on-EVR's,6.9% pay rise,resolving the pension issue,job security and the bribe will be if you vote NO all that will be gone forever - it will be interesting to see who comes out top in the debate and if enough people are swayed into the YES camp.

IT'S A NO VOTE FOR ME!!!!! WHOS SIDE ARE THE UNION ON ? I CAN'T SAY I AM HONESTLY SURPRISED BY THE OUTCOME. I FOR ONE ( OF MANY) WILL BE GIVING MYSELF A £3 A WEEK RISE ANYWAY.

SAME REACTION IN OURS, never seen the staff united as they were today. Even the gaffers and D.O.M admitted we had been royally fked. We have to make sure that afternoon staff and the mail centres understand just how bad this is going to make deliveries.

we have to somehow get a message to every office in the country to vote no to this . any ideas how we can get a list of every delivery office in the country and post them a letter to say we must all say no to this crap deal. most people took this job to finish early on saturdays some people only see there kids or have season tickets at football . plus all this spin about a pay increase its crap. its just been worded in a way to look good and fool people . ive been saying all along royal mail year by year are scaling the job down till we are all part time . this is another way off pixsxng people off till they leave and the union are going along with it. yes you wait and see the union will say we must accept this its a great deal i wouldnt be surprised if they havent been given a big lump sum to push this through . plus when we all vote no how do we know they wont rig the vote is there anyway of this being checked . vote no and stand up to these slime bags

Just as happened with BT and service delivery transformation. The branches rejected the deal and CWU spat its dummy and carried on putting it to the membership with management assistance until it was accepted.
There is nothing democratic about this union.

Yes W - I noted before the rather peculiar circumstances of this particular arrangement. If it turned out to be a YES vote against all the odds - what would be the chance of having an independent scrutineer checking the count? Surely a union with nothing to hide could object to a group of ordinary members scrutinising the veracity of the vote?

I well remember the Bush election and I think it was the Florida (?) voters.

On a previous vote there was a large number of voting papers going AWOL - and then of course there are "spoiled" papers - would a tea stain count, tear stain?
