WORKING FOR YEARS WITHOUT A CONTRACT

hi all
this is to anyone who has been working for royalmail for longer than 2 years and does not have a contract i been with royal mail for 4 years now and have not been given a contract i a to my dom about this and he said that he would sort it out for me. a few weeks later he called me into his office and told me h/r would not issue me a contract because they are not giving them out. so i look into it and found out that they are breaking european employment laws with states a company can not keep you on temp contract for more than 2 year unless you work for a agency. so if there is any one on full time or part time who should have a contract then imform your dom they have 1 month to get you a permanant contract or you will start legal action. if you want to know more google employment law and follow the sites.

You should have had a contract after 1 or 3 months after employment.

once you've been there a year you have full employment rights anyway.

can only think they are "hiding" the contract so you think you are not a normal employee and you might save them some vr money.

unfortunatley some people may actually look for different employment in your situation.

i think the union should make sure all such staff as you get contracts......or the union should take it further

I'm in the same situation and flaiminmoses is right, after 2 years you have the same employment rights anyway so what difference does having a piece of paper make? If anything did go wrong and you find yourself on the dole for no apparent reason, can you imagine how RM will look at your employment tribunal? Don't worry about it

I've been wondering about this for a while now, even for employees like me who have been employed for 6 + years, should we not get new contracts when the T&Cs are changed so drastically? I don't have the original contract I was given when I started but I bet not much in it is still valid today... Ask your rep to look into it for you

No we won't get new contracts as the original says something along the lines of "Amendments and changes to this contract will be advertised in the London Gazette and any major changes will come under the collective agreement arrangements we have with the CWU."

Thats not the exact wording but give you the general idea.

Just a note to say I belive for Fixed term contracts the law says that employers can only offer them to your for 4 years then they must either take you on full time or part company with you. This I belive is to stop employers abusing people re fixed term contracts

Funny ; I was jjust thinking of this yesterday.

I've just celebrated (sic) two years with RM.

First contract was for one year.

Second contract was for 10 months.

That expired in January

I know have no contract; but turn up for work everyday and and get paid.

It's all very strange. There are others in the office in that same position.

the plot thickens, ive been with rm 6 years and dont have a bloody duty..ive always had tempary dutys..i will soon be back to being a reserve..i know people with 12years in & are still reserves.
