They do it to cover thier backs, to say they have looked after thier workforce, heavy days though they turn a blind eye as it saves money!

At my office we all have to weigh our bags and write it all up on a sheet before we go out, the odd postie forgets because they are rushing around  but mostly this is followed. People are also starting to do their bags at the correct weights following the sliding scale since a few of the old timers on their easy walks got caught at home finished around half 12 :arrrghhh.

Same here, I weigh mine every day, and split up any over weight.

My mail for the day weighed 185kg the other day...

That would be 12 bags... 9 to be dropped off if I was on a walk!

The most 12 bags can weigh is 137 Kg.

Why only 9 dropped off? What about the other three?

And so as I understand you brother, what is your reasoning behind your post that the most 12 bags can weigh is 137 Kg, in other words how did you reach this conclusion. Although I think I've got it! (11 bags x 11kg = 121kg + 1 x bag at 16kg (first bag) = 137kg.

Only prob is that this 1st bag of 16kg and all subsequent bags of 11kg has to my knowledge still never been Nationally agreed although some branches have already adopted it.

I wouldn't know what's nationally agreed and what's not. I just have to trust my rep. He's seen the form we fill in day in day out, writing down our bag weights.

Personally, I find 16Kg too heavy. My first bag is rarely over 11Kg.

Well on the issue of trust please ask your rep to show you the relevant LTB or National Agreement that states that the 1st bag will be 16kg and all subsequent other bags 11kg because I am sure no such one exists yet. Don't get me wrong this is the format that the CWU are hoping to adopt Nationally but it hasn't been formalised yet. I'll leave you with the short last paragraph of LTB 163/07 issued by Dave Joyce which was on the subject of Weight of Additional Pouches on Delivery: Update Report.

Until then Royal Mail HQ will instruct local managers to make no variance from the existing Pouch Weight Matrix until a new SSOW has been approved and HSE consulted. Royal Mail has asked me to advise Area Safety Representatives of this position. I hope to conclude this issue shortly and of course it will be a significant step forward I hope. I will of course keep you updated and issue a further report to Branches.

Is not the existing Pouch Weight Matrix along the lines of 1st bag 16Kg, second bag 12 kg, 3rd bag 10kg, 4th and subsequent bags 8kg? (May have the figures slightly wrong)
