What HAVEN'T they agreed so far?

Post by Spedley »

Cast your mind back a few months to the start of the strikes and let us see how the talks are going.

Issue:
1) An independent arbiter to evaluate work loads
2) Pegasus changes to be implemented with agreement on a fair basis
3) Cut out bullying and harassment from managers towards staff
4) Earlier start times
5) Crosier and Leighton out
6) Quality of service back in

Mmm, not doing too well at the moment then

Also note: pay, bonuses and D2D weren't actually ever on the list.

TBH the only thing I'm major interested in is work-load evaluation, and if that hasn't been sorted I'll be voting NO.

Forget 15quid here or there for d2d, if you can't walk properly when your 50 because you've been carrying overweight bags for 25 years then what's the point in doing this job over another that wont kill you or ruin your later life but might pay you 30 quid less a week?

We need walks that are fair and SAFE. Anything less is a joke.

It's the only thing anybody should be interesred in.
Lets be honest, the lump sums will be spent in 6 months and after a while who notices a pay rise, you just find something else to spend it on.
But what you will notice and keep on noticing is the toll this job takes on your body. :hmmmm

I have to ask, people talk about work load evaluation, but in my office people moan about the amount of work on certain days, but no one works past there time in fact most finish a little early no one starts befor there time and the union enforces a meal relief at 08:30.
Are there people out there working past there time. if you are cut out bring it back and prove your point. But if what you are saying is that you want to rush round like a lunatic and finish stupidly early then you need to come into the real world and realise that the only way to save your job is to work to your time.

Therefore it is important that the Union increase our basic pay and shorten our working week as a priorty in any deal

I think what will find when people talk about workload evaluation they are talking about what is expected of them inside their working hours.
A 3.5hr walk in one area is not always the same as 3.5hr walk in another area of the country. You can thank local agreements and revisions for that one.
That is why people talk about fair and achievable workloads.
I'm happy for you that your office is so strong and disciplined,i have heard that about London offices
But do excuse the rest of us if we have different priorities. :hmmmm

I understand about workload in the office. Although I am confused about taking out overweight bags, there are clear rules set down around this, the vast majority of our walks are delivered by trolly's, but the answer to overweight bags is to ask for bag drops, if managers are not up for this then bring back the work!

The new idea from RM is these small vans and they are saying that we will all be sharing these for walks that are more than a mile away, we are finding people are not keen on the idea of them as they dont like working with others. (truth be told it is because then therir speed is dictated to by the strongest charecter in the pair)But we are going to struggle to argue that our deliveries are too heavy when we are being offered vans to assist us.

What worries me about these vans is that this is a way of removing drives as the guys in the van's will be expected to take out all packets regardless of size and the vans will result in the removal of the current system of a walking postman taking no more than 8 special deliveries for security reasons.

Thats why the independent review of workloads was so important for a lot of members on strike.I wish the truth/bingo etc would give us some details on that section of the proposed agreement.

As for park and loop,we got it in our office,i havnt delivered on the park and loop duties but the way they are in our office its a kinda 'by any means possible' attitude to delivering mail. There seems to be no set way of doing it.The manager keeps saying they work and some staff dont mind them(they also dont mind doorstepping and taking shortcuts etc.) there are others that choose to come in 50 mins early rather than cut off and stand up to management.

We got a very high turnout in the strike, but left to our own devices without a national agreement the staff in my office are champions at cutting their own throat. We tried to encourage them to do the job properly after the last revision but within days its back to normal-coming in early/not weighing their bags/cars on delivery etc the finishing early culture is so strong that even after considerable increases in workloads and even some of them admitting 'i shouldnt come in early,im only making it worse! sure as hell they are at it again the next day, incredif**kingbubble!!
