It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Well going by the planners i've seen it's full-time hours with a part-time workload.

Why not use posties as planners from the delivery office affected then at least you can try and keep some control over whats happening. The planners that came in to do our SDD were terrible 
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

The Planners,work very hard I will have you know ,and quite a lot of walking involved too.
Based upon the planners I know.
No 1 requirement,
NO understanding of delivereies,never having done a walk is a great asset when planning walks.
As the work is so stressfull and important ,you will need a CUP OF Coffe in your hands most of the time,so a lot of time is spent making cups of Coffe.
No2 -Requriement must be a Smoker,,all the Planners I have seen are heavy smokers,this means you are entitled to a long fag brake and coffe break either combined or taken seperatley or both,several times a hour,this is how stressfull the job is,As a Example ,you might have to go out side for a fag in freezing or wet conditions.You must be tough to be able to put up with this>!
Not only this you have to walk from your office to the Outside of the building for a Fag,now doing this every 10 minutes can be very tiring.
As the job is so important you get a lap top,make sure everybody sees this so they know how important you are!
The Planning team in RM are like the Royal marines tof the Company the best their is in the Company
(Some unkind person suggested Dads Army was more suitable)

I cant comment on what any of you have seen regarding the planners in your areas as i dont know what offices you work at but for the area in which i am a planner i work hard to ensure that nobody is "stitched up" and i assume my colleagues do the same.
As for having posties do the planning we are all ex posties myself doing 15 years as a postman, driver and phg
i do not go out every 10 minutes for a fag (as i dont smoke) nor do i constantly have a cup of coffee in my hand and i dont have a proper meal relief either as i will probably go without or have something to eat while i work.
also you wont see me working from home till the early evening trying to catch up on the workload i have (as i have more than 1 office to look after.
in a few of the offices i have done revisions in they have been unable to make the amount of savings they want as i will not manipulate the system to suit.
after a revision has been done we get lots of complaints about how unfair walks are and i agree that some of them are. they could be made a lot better if the staff and union would not be obstructive and give us the information we are looking for rather that as having to make guesstimates.
i will agree that some revisions would not be necesssary if your colleagues didnt run around carving the job up so you could say you have yourselves to partly blame.
Georoute/Pegasus is not perfect as no computer based system is and after running scenarios duty tailoring is required, this can only really be done with staff input but this isnt usually forthcoming.
as these jobs being advertised can be applied for by anyone, why dont some of you go for them and see if you can do a better job and i will applaud you if you can.
