Hi Visability Vests

The policy of RM is that rural drivers wear these vests.

Could you tell me please, why the town walking deliveries do not have to?

in our office everyone has to wear them.

Ours dont but I wear them when visibility is poor.

I believe that because the pouch has a reflective strip on it this is enough for the H&S aspect for walking deliveries as the risk of an accident is reduced when compared to Van, Wagon and Bike duties.

Otherwise it would mean everyone who delivers leaflet, newspapers, milk, etc would have to wear them as well. In essence walking posties unless in a particularly high risk area, face the same risk as normal pedestrians. However with non walking duties the risks are higher especially with vehicle duties.

I think the only problem with Hi Vis, is so many people are wearing them now driver are beginning to become oblivious to them.

Our area manager suspended 2 posties who were returning from duty and not wearing them. He said he was responding to a Health & Safety instruction.

I wear mine if im doing afternoon collections in the dark. Other than that I never do.

Bit of a grey area in my office, some people wear them all the time and some people never do, boss hasnt said either way.

As a driver we have to wear them whilst driving and loading etc. Everyone wears one whilst in the yard, bank and cycling. Out on the walk i wear it all the way round unless it warm (yeah right no chance this winter) then i take it off for the quiter roads at the end.

Everyone has to wear them in the yard (unless you're coming in or leaving), all collection drivers have to wear them and anybody on a bike has to wear them but we've had no other instruction as regards to others I just wear mine all the time because I can't really be bothered fighting with them if anything goes wrong.

Can't believe I'm wasting my time reading this. No wonder RM is going down the pan !

What would you rather wear under your Hi Vis ?

If it rains and you have to wear Raincoat and Waterproof trousers would you want to strip off underneath because no one can see your UNIFORM ???
