Saturday`s.......Advice please.

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone had a suggestion as to how I could, or if I should approach my Dom regarding Saturdays? We have 4 regular 40 hr contracts who take their days off on rotation wed-sat, so every 4 weeks they each get a sat off. My day off is Mon. I cover the part timer Tues, and then cover the other guys days off wed-sat. I never get a sat off, and although they say i get 2 days of in a row, I hate it. I always do overtime if needed whereas the others are not to keen to take it on, so I feel a bit short changed. Can i ask for this to be considered, or would I be wasting my time? I have recently separated from my wife too, so a sat with my son every now and then would be a real bonus sometimes.

Sorry but these guys are taking the piss, you are entitled to your sat off just as they are, methinks it,s a case of the dim dom favouring these guys.
If he isn.t going to change the rotating days off see your rep or area rep and tell dim you will put in a grievance as you need the sat off aswell cos of child care, he will not be long in changing cos he is breaking national agreements, maybe someone can post it here for you.

I'd say speak to your rep and get advice.. Everyone is entitled to a Saturday off, unless your a Saturday helper and only work the 1 day. If i were you i'd be looking at working Mon til Fri with every Saturday off for you to see your kid, keep doin the O/T to keep them sweet. Woman in our office is F/T works Mon-Fri and gets every Saturday off, thou i know this pisses everyone off in our office. So try to get an agreement thats suitable for all party's involved, but more 60/40 or 70/30 in your favour bud..

Your dom will tell "we only need to give 1 day of week, anyday crap" . Don't fall for it under RM equal opportuties policy your are entitled to sat off every 6 weeks, although it may not work out exact, so if you may get 2 sat in 1 month then not again for a couple of months.
I don't know whats worse the doms for taking the p*** or you so called collegues.

From snippets posted on hear on the various "when are the talks ending" threads we might all be getting more Saturdays off - I hope so mine is a fixed day and I never get 2 days off in a row except when sick or on leave.

I am on a rolling day and get a long weekend sat/mon every 6 weeks. The same for restday covers in our office as fair is fair.

Still no answer from my DOM about this. Just wanted to clarify that i am entitled to a sat off every six weeks even though i am P/T? 35 hrs?

Well looking at your original post, you're on a fixed rest day, which is not unusual. Many offices do this across their workforce, so 5 out of 6 people in that office never have a Saturday off !
In my place we're on rotating rest days, which seems to suit everyone fine ...... 1 Saturday in 6 off

Just out of interest looking at the WFA would I be entitled to extra leave after 15 years service if it was in 2 seperate stints with RM? ie 1988-1994 and 2002-2010, i know that don't add up to 15 years yet but you know what I mean.

Don't think so ......
In our place they would only count your current length of service for holiday entitlement, and they would use that for seniority too !

I would have thought your previous service would count towards Annual Leave entitlement (but not seniority):

All periods of service on a temporary or permanent contract (with periods of casual service included only if
they run continuously into a temporary or permanent contract), except for those on unpaid leave, SPPR, or
with HM Forces exceeding 15 days, will count towards calculating leave due. Previous periods of PO service
may be counted for this purpose.

So it looks like our manager is interpereting this in a different way ....no change there then
