GREEN ISSUES IN new DELIVERIES

Just wondered what people think of the increase in D2D and vans in the new proposed deliveries and workloads by Royal Mail.

The government bang on about landfill targets then agree on Royal Mail doubling junk mail through peoples doors.

So i cant understand how government and the opposition can be claiming to introduce policies that reduce waste and the d2d leaflet delivery is a growing market?

I know Royal Mail are saying they are gonna have a green transport fleet in the future and i see they have one green van on trial in the scottish hebrides but the amount of vans proposed for park and loop must be enormous and would that be offset by the electric energy needed to power all those vehicles?

Anyway green issues not my strong point and im not suggesting we should refuse work in the shape of D2D but maybe if we have to increase D2D then royal mail(with special exceptions) should be the only company that has a license to deliver this type of mail,that way this type of paper product that may end in land fill could be more easily monitored and regulated.

The power has to come from somewhere, with Oil, coal and gas running out generating electricity will have to get greener ( Wind /waves), so electric vans or dual fuel will supposedly be greener than the diesel guzzlers we use now.
On the D2D's my feelig is RM want them them to pay for the postal deliveries, that why 100% per day has been mentioned, as for the waste, that may be offset by the fact that they will probably be walk sequenced in an envelope, makes them a lot more efficient to put in the recycling bin

Leaflets should not be going to landfill, no excuse for that what so ever.

Technology has been around for some time now to recycle paper based products, its up to local councils to provide householder withe means to recycle them.

My council provides three bins dry recycling, food waste, and everything else.

Green issues and rm just don't go, rm are law into themselves,we see in Health and Safety issues, contract standards and now green issues. Unless their is a massive drop in delivering leaflets etc green issues and rm will continue to poor. Every week rainforest are being cut down and animals wiped out because of greed. Under rm management it will continue with them receiving their big bonuses.

Oil won't run out in our lifetime, there's no worries of that. There's billions of barrels worth in places that atm are a little too expensive to obtain (potential fields in the Falklands for example) but as the easy accessible sources we use now start to run dry it will become economically viable to drill in the more expensive sites.

We're getting rid of all our horrible polluting bicycles and replacing them with lovely diesel vans.

On a serious note though, you gotta wonder if we have managed to wipe out 600,000,000 years worth of viable resources in 60 years,what kind of tricky dicky stuff are the petrochemical corporations going to come up with to extend their shelf life. My bet is they will get the legal rights over oxygen and you and I will be pay per use

Or perhaps even charge when we expel hydrogen sulphide gas or even methane. The government could bring in Target related bonus schemes based on the level of olfactory assault caused because of such noxious gases.
