At the end of the day if you dont sign the tracking will not show as delivered so we can claim for a lost item we have become very good at recovering our costs as we get a lot of practice with royal mail we sent them a letter in jan stating we claimed for 92 lost recorded delivery items between oct-dec and did they think this was a bit odd they replied saying we where below average! we did sent about 10000 items in that time but postmen are one of those people you never complain too as you know where you mail will be the next day

Definitely a tough read that one! they are right though there are a few that dont get recorded dels signed for at our office, it annoys me as it is a paid for service by the customer & it's not that difficult to get a sig or write a notice left. Pure lazyness

The poster 'carlisle' obviously received a package which was 'Tracked' but he was not asked to sign for it. He told the company who sent it, and what he has posted above is their reply to him, in which they are saying that because, in their experience, RM fail to get signatures for many of that companys' consignments, they can then claim back the money from RM as a non delivered item.

If it is Special Delivery items they are referring to then they would get the SD cost back for a 'lost' item. If it is Recorded then presumably they are getting it back in stamps or a credit to their Franking system
