In a response to a Freedom of Information Act request made by Steve Woods to the Royal Mail in December 2008, the company disclosed that it used the following numbers of rubber bands in each of the three years listed:
2007/8 - 871,695,000
2006/7 - 825,750,000
2005/6 - 753,480,000

so if volumes are falling how come we are using more bands are they that rubbish

10% mail reduction means a rise of 5.56% in rubber band usage.

Yep the red ones are really that s**t, found some of the old brown ones, after 5 years of being stashed in my locker, their as good as new and I'm reusing them day in day out and they aint snapping.

Wait until the figures come out for the red bands, the usage will be through the roof. Mine go straight in the bin after one use because they're crap.

One of our posties copped one in the eye when it snapped, left a real nasty mark for a couple of days.

I have red marks on my forearms from the bands breaking every time I tie up and get hit in the face by quiet often, it's only a matter of time before I cop one in the eye :(. I might buy some string and tie dolly knots with that instead, at least I can use the string more than once :P
