The regulator and DHL, TNT and the rest.

Simple question this.

We can't do anything without the ok from the regulator, we can't do step because we get fined by the regulator. Basically we do something wrong the regulator bollocks us and fines us.

So

Does the regulator regulate our competitors the way it regulates us? I ask because i'm forever seeing UK mail, HDNL, DHL private couriers and the rest dumping stuff on doorsteps, losing things etc. So does the regulator actually do anything like regulate these companies or is it just us?

The regulator I belive only has powers within the area of the market that was held by the RM monopoly.

They dont regulate Parcleforce and its rivals

so basically dhl, hdnl and the rest can do what they want when they want? Typical of our wonderfull government to allow this.

The problem is,it's very easy to complain to RM,how the hell would customers complain to the others,chances are customers think it's us anyway.

I'm guessing the regulator has no idea as to what the others are up to.

had a look on postcomm website and yes it's very easy to complain about RM, they even have a link on the website so that you can complain about RM to Postcomm. Postcomms advice on the other 'providers' is to contact them (the provider of the service) direct. Fine. I've done that a couple of times now and received no reply whatsoever. So why do we have a regulator when all it regulates is RM. What a joke. Aren't all the gas and electric companies regulated by the one regulator? Aren't all the telecom companies regulated by the one regulator? Banks etc. So why is it different for businessess with licences to deliver mail? Why is it just RM that is regulated?

Why don't RM issue us with stickers that we can put on any item doorstepped by one of our competeters?
Perhaps it could say something like this item WAS NOT left by RM.
Maybe there is a legal reason why this would not be possible,is there anyone out there who has an insight
into these type of legalities.

I'm sure that there are many members of the public who automaticaly blame any misdemeanor on us.

It's something to do with unfair competition, same as we arn't allowed to put a sticker on letters over the tnt/ukmail etc part of letters we deliver for them.

It would be far more effective to educate the public instead. I had a customer that moaned at every opportunity about how rubbish Royal Mail were until the other day she came out to moan with a card in her hand "you didn't knock yesterday!" she fumed. The card was a big yellow Intercity Express courier one, it took a moment to explain that *shock* other companies delivered stuff she was even more shocked at the redelivery charge (£11.00) or how far she had to go to collect it; over 15 miles away. I pointed out that our callers office was less than 2 miles away, we offered free re-deliveries and could always leave it at her local Post office which was 5 minutes walk away for a 50p charge.
