Postal Sector Annual Report 2009/10

Please find attached an electronic PDF copy of this years Postal Sector Annual report.

As you will see the format and print of the annual report has changed from that produced in previous years. Branches will be aware that we are reviewing the cost of every item of work and moving from the previous “glossy” productions to this format will realise a substantial saving.
The costs associated with the design and printing of all documentation for CWU conference has been quite considerable. Accordingly the NEC determined that we should print these documents in-house and on recycled paper. The cost saving for this new format is expected to be in the region of £50,000 per Annual Conference.

INTRODUCTION

Comrades
I would like to thank all representatives and members, on behalf of the Postal Executive,
for your continued support during extremely difficult times in the Postal Industry.

By the time we meet at Annual Conference Royal Mail members will have had their say
on the outcome of talks on the future of the Postal Industry. Our campaign on pensions
for Labour Government to fund the deficit, will have delivered or been dismissed by
Mandelson and Brown. Without a successful outcome we will see continued attacks on
conditions and pension benefits. The Postal leadership needs to ensure all agreements
match the determination our members have shown throughout the year in support of the
CWU.

The year has been a battle with the Labour Government to support Royal Mail remaining
as a fully funded Public Service with decent pay, pensions and jobs. The industrial action
and hardship that our membership has endured during this time has been unprecedented
and a credit to all involved. Without this action all our futures would be in doubt as the
Government and all Parties continue to attack and threaten further privatisation of Public
Services. Trade Unions cannot continue to allow the Labour Government or any Party to
attack ordinary workers making them pay the price for the recession that politicians,
bankers and big business have created.

When we stand together in unity and solidarity we can win against hostile Governments
and employers. Our members have not failed the CWU and now we must ensure, no
matter how difficult, that workers benefit and feel secure in their employment, in what is
a profitable industry.

Once again, thank you for all the hard work and sacrifices you have made to ensure the
CWU is in the workplace, organised and united to defend our members.

Usually June, it will be on the CWU website as Conference dates and locations are decided and booked well in advance.

Conference is the start and finish of the main Union rep year, its at Conference any outgoing and incoming PEC members take effect.
