me and my other half have been delivery staff in an office in essex for over 20 years. We have seen many changes. at the moment there are so many rumours and speculations about bikes, vans & trolleys. 10 hour dutys. I have heard the walk are going to be made larger by geo does anyone have any idea what that is.
also how long are the new walks meant to take. im not going any younger and dont want to be a cripple by the time im 50.

hi trudy ! - congrats on sticking this job out for 20yrs !! ive done 10 and feel worn out ( too much green docket !! ) in the good old days ! now were doing far too much and in less time ?? anyway i dont have a answer for you but yes lots of rumours flyin round and you are spot on with same as iv heard just to add also heard of van shares where two go out in one van and also 830-430 hours along with a full 8hrs on a dsat or a scrap sat scheme with a lump sum ?? im really fed up with the job now but will see what happens ! there must be a better way of earning a living these days ???? i feel like the public treat us like crap along with the company ! best wishes

You can have a 4 day week if you want to when you have your next revision,you will not be forced on to 10hr days.

4 day weeks are brilliant every 3rd week finish on thursday start again wednesday,in between wed/thu off loving it we have been done it for the last 2 years

We currently do 5 weeks on 6th off, how would a 4 day week work in a 5 man section with the 6th man covering rest weeks?

Hey postman gattuso. Am i right in saying that on the 4 day week you have to do 10hour days? how do you find this? What extra work do you have to do?

4 day weeks has it's pro's and con's,one con being longer walks,we went to a 4hr delivery,but it's worth it for the days off.
In London with P&M a lot of offices went for the 4 dayers,only to have it ripped away from us a year and a bit later!
We are now jumping through hoops trying to get it back.
One problem being mon and tue,what is happening now is some duties wil have to be permanent mon/tue rest days,so no rest day cover,and those duties will go out on SA on those days,5/6 hrs worth depending on what deal you can get.I'm thinking possible absorption of those duties on those days later on.
I'm thinking it could be hard for most of you to get on it as you have so many part timers now,and you are pushed with indoor work because of the extra prepping you have to do.
On a 4 day week there are less people in the office so less part timers duties can be prepped.
Also for every 4 duties you get you will lose 1 head count,as you wil have to split that duty between the 4 to get a 4hr walk.
Same for drivers as they have a longer day.

I do a 30 hour week, so that would become 4 x 7.5 hour day. The question is why do I do in the extra 90 mins of working day I have just gained?
