Long story short.....
Batch of reg came in late,no way drivers could do them,some Sat guarantees were done,loads left in the office,managers went home 2 hrs early.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Only saturday guaranteed goes out on a saturday the rest aint touched, even if they are residential.

All our specials go out irregardless of whether they are SG or not.

Whats Reg and what's SG? I thought reg just meant recorded, which comes with all the normal post, not separated or tracked at all until it's signed for (or carded?).

We get approx 2k to 3k a day during the week, as management in their infinate wisdom say Saturday is a light day so there is less people in the stir cage today, we'd be still waiting for them come our finishing time! all they do is seg the SG's.

Registered Post (Reg) was an old form of post when there used to be Registered and Recorded. Special Delivery has taken the place of registered and thats why in some placed is called Reg mail.NewPostieUK wrote:Whats Reg and what's SG? If you post something on a Friday Special Delivery, is it not guaranteed next day unless it's SG? Do you have to pay extra for SG?
Funny enough I had a 9am Special this morning, and it had SG written on it. Never seen that before.

Slightly off topic but if you sent a 9 O'clock Reg on a friday, do you have to pay extra for a sat delivery as well or is it already SG because of the £12 price for them

In our office Specials are sacrosanct. Come hell or high water they must be delivered before 1:00pm and yet from the posts on here it would appear other DOMs and offices take a differing view.
No wonder we have all the confusion and disagreements we have, when we can’t manage to implement a simple procedure to cover something as fundamental as Specials.
As for managers going home early on a Saturday, well that appears to be the norm in most offices, certainly is in ours. Perhaps it is because they work so hard from Monday to Friday that it’s considered fair for them to go home as soon the last OPG’s left the office with their delivery on a Saturday morning.
All right, all right, so I was only joking! However, I’ve often wondered what would happen if I had a serious accident on a Saturday while on delivery. I doubt anyone would realize until the Monday. Putting aside the issue of my welfare for the moment, what about the security of the mail? If I’m lying face down in a ditch somewhere, then the mail I’ve yet to deliver could befall all manner of fates yet does anyone care? Certainly not my managers because they all busily pissed off home around 9.00am. Should this be acceptable practice?

I did a duty that covered the locker from 5am to lock up at 1pm some years ago. It was prep and out the door, no one was still in by 9 and by no one I include managers, so breakdowns, accidents, illnesses, customer complaints, all ended up with me for which I received the princely sum of FA.
So I presume someone at your office takes responsibility for all problems - and I don't envy whoever it is - because you aint done 'til the last mans in.
