I know there have been many topics/comments on here about 'flyers', 'runners' , etc , etc. Those that are so proud to race round and finish early... And then boast about it.

Yesterday at 12:30 (I still have 80 mins to go) I see people cycling back to the office.

I have a good relationship with the DOM (to be honest he;s a very decent guy). And he's told me his plans.

Well; the long awaited upshot will hit everyone in the next couple of weeks.

We currently lapse one walk. And not every day.

Because people are taking the proverbial : Lapsing will be two walks , as often as possible. Hours will be changed to make Tuesday a shorter day. And hours will be banked. No overtime for 'pressure'

So, I'd just like to say well done to all those runners/flyers.

Hope they are happy now.

Its been on the cards for years now and some folk still don’t get it. I ve saw guys going back at 11.15am last week when I did not returned till 1.45pm.
You try and try to tell people to not come in an hour early do not use your car and rush around taking risks but it falls on deaf ears.

We absorb 3 walks a day which means your doing 30 mins more delivery. This is taking me up to 5 hours out the office on a busy day so I cant see what I have to fear with the incoming changes as i am going to my time or just over.

The flyers will be soon be looking at 2 hours added to their days and more on a sat which may sting just a bit.

They probably do, I have explained the same to "runners" they do know what I am saying , they understood it, but they just don't want to see it.



Runners sounds like a good analogy, party as much as you can hoping 30 doesn't come round, reality hits them when their life crystal shows red and Sandman is coming after them.

It is sad really.The last new starters in the last couple of years were trained to use their car,so they do not know any better.I think they will really struggle once the new agreement kicks in.I have seen on a few threads in the forum the arguments over "paid/unpaid meal reliefs". OK fine...it's worth the argument for principle sake.Let's be honest though.Even when we have been paid to take a meal relief...we never use it! We use it to do absorptions/lapsing!!!
I don't think it is something we should "dislike" someone for.They are just used to it that is all.However I am fed up with the reps getting it in the neck when these changes happen though!
To a certain degree HQ too. However they cannot MAKE us stop using our cars. Why? Because it is THE NORM.If we stop working "normally",then it is deemed as unofficial industrial action.There-fore we have brought it amongst ourselves really.
Those who choose to do the job correctly,(or work safely),they are a minority.Their voice is not loud enough and it is really frustrating.Hence the regular arguments on this forum.

Yes I agree with you to a point and I do see where you are coming from.
I talked to my Dom last week about the use of cars and he is dead against it. He does not want the risk of mail being stolen or having to discipline people for not following procedure. He would be happier with folk using trolleys and taking longer if the mail was secure , safe and properly insured. However he did admit that he see’s big problems in getting people to change habits they have been doing for years.

But what can you do when today (sat) posties had finished at 10.15am, that’s nearly 2 hours early for Christ sake. I rolled back at 12.10 and the Dom had well gone home so his really not any better is he. It makes your head hurt.

Can't understand why people go back to the office (unless its to pick your car up ) get a P739 pouch and drop it off at a locoal PO and go home, if you make any time don't let the other side know that.

Of the walks I cover only two have pouching off. One is at a Post Office which is a 15 min walk from last delivery point, the other at a Post Office which is actually further away than the DO!

Why should it bother anybody what others do? Do your job properly and work your hours, don't do any overtime and don't do your day off. Ignore what anybody else is doing, they have been told enough now and are not going to change unless we have a clocking in and out system.

Fair point BUT

Trouble is that all the Dom's see is the flyers getting back at 11am and picking up half a walk on OT and finishing at 1pm. Thats fine and good luck to them but the Dom will then say everyone can afford to do more and cut a few duties out the office and split the them evenly onto all the walks .

The flyer is not all that bothered and can still get done by 11.30am but people like myself will end up going 20 mins over their time and have to cut everyday. The cutting become's a problem for the Dom and i will be questioned WHY i cant get finished when the flyer is so much quicker. This causes stress and all because i ve done the job properly not come in early and used my car etc.

You should have refused to take it back for them, they are using you for mugs, I don't like being used by anybody, I have refused to take anything back, its hasn't made me popular but at least they stopped asking me

I feel sorry for you if your office is full of so many flyers that this awkward situation is around for you. In my office there are enough people doing the job properly that this couldn't happen. Also, the DOMs are quite reasonable and seem to recognise the flyers and ignore them and only come down on those that are trying to work to rule or something.
All I can say is that you have to stand up for yourself, if you know you are in the right. It causes stress, but I suppose these are the trials of life and will pass when the DOM gives up or moves on or makes the big mistake of wrongfully suspending someone who is working correctly.
Remember, rushing only leads to mistakes which leads to conduct eventually......
