Just hope the poor guy gets loads of compensation and never has to work again, as for the owners of the dog they should be put in prison..

I cannot emphasise this enough but if ever approached by a snarling dog, or even if they run at you. NEVER EVER TURN AND RUN it activates the chase instinct in what is basically a carnivore who sees you as prey.

You can use, just like on a person attacking you, any reasonable and justifiable force. If you kick it to stop an attack, fair enough, but if you keep kicking once it stops, then you are breaking the law. Also the dogs size should be taken into account. I had a yorkie they toy version, attack me once, bit the back of my ankle. I just turned and shouted NO, it ran like I had scalded it.

still going through the legal system. The Police and the PPS (?) asked for trial at Crown Court at it was agreed. Now the Father and Daughter are facing trial but there is a question over the legality as the attack although on private land was accessible by the public. They are trying to get the case quashed apparently.

I have only been threatened by dogs a handful of times in the six years I have worked as a postie. On nearly every occasion facing the dog and dropping my pouch in front of me has deterred the dog, but on one occasion it was obvious that the dog wasn't going to stop and I had no choice but to kick it in the face. The dog yelped and ran off but I did feel really sorry for it afterwards. At the end of the day he would have bitten me had I not stopped him.
