I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I chose what was rumoured to be the worst duty and I like it. Its going to grow soon as well.

It took me ten years to get my own duty,then i tranferred nearer home.Now i have a lovely rural in the peak district which i have been doing for six years.

8 weeks on the training walk
Done about 40 walks since then between about 10 different offices and only joined in August 2009
I enjoy it though, but coming in on Saturday there to a bulging frame on one of the toughest, longest and furthest away walks in the office - that I had never done before was a bit of a kick in the balls.
However was easier on the Monday when I was put on it again.

Ive been on the same walk for about 15 years,but its got a lot lot bigger then when i was first on it.
It took me about 3 years to get a decent duty at our place.

8 years and still a reserve, up until the last 4 months of last year (when I had the worst duty that nobody else could cope with), the longest before that was 4 weeks when I first started.
I'm preparing myself for the zombie invasion, rule number 1 - Cardio

What tactics is there to getting a better walk? or are you just offered it .. im at the bottom of the picking order right now.

shurly when another walks comes available i should move up one?? even if that walk isnt that great.

There are 2 ways
1. A full office resign where all duties are signed for in seniorty.
2. A duty becomes vacant(someone may have left etc)and is put up for signing by the Dom.If there is more then one applicant then again seniorty will be used to decide the succesfull applicant.
So as you are the junior bod im afraid theres a good chance you will get a crap walk or end up as a reserve.
Weve all had to do it,its part and parcel of the job,stick it out and you will be rewarded with a better duty as your seniorty goes up.I was in your shoes 24 years ago,but im now 12th in an office of 63 and have a nice walk.

I am about 20th bottom at the moment and is looking for my own walk. But I don't think I will get it and work full time. But I will have to hope I get lucky with Full Repick which could be coming. I probably done about 80-90 out 140 walks. I hope the new machine will make me throw in the mail a lot faster as I am not that quick.
