Does anyone work on the sequencing machines?

They are coming to our office soon and applications for the post of running them have been put up. I'm tempted to go for the job because the extra money would be handy and I'd rather do nights 11:30pm - 7:30am than van share later start times.
Also, it seems to be a semi-skilled job and the prospects for moving to another job seem better.

Anyway, can anybody tell me exactly what their job is during both the 2 hours operating the machine and the X amount of time off the machines. Also, what breaks do you have and how is the workload? And finally, is the job feasible or is there too much pressure to work faster.
Any other info would be good too!

1st up the jobs go on seniority. Two hours working the machine?? Where did you hear this?? They run all night at our place 11.30 till 9.30!! It's a boring repetative job!!

Jobs get filled on seniority regardless off whether you are a complete knob or not thats how it was done in stockport.so if you not got fifteen years plus in you av no chance.

You are monitored all through the night they know when the machine was on how fast you were working when you had a break and for how long and when you scratched you arse!! Maybe not the last bit. All data is then sent to head office to be assesed!

no it has to be done on seniority !! if the dim's are pulling a fast one it needs to be flaged to union area then on to national if need be

They say it doesn't have to be done on seniority, probably because the machines are in a difference building. They say that new jobs do not have to be done on seniority and that an interview will determine suitability, i.e. they don't have to give you the job.

Don't know about blue eyed boys, but maybe someone who wants to, and can do, the effin' job would be nice, so suitability every time.
Seniority indeed...who else but RM would even countenance that idea for machine operators?

2 hours on, 2 hours off - you must be joking. I've done 6 hours straight off on a CSS machine and it's a killer.Everything you do is monitored and recorded.You're expected to clear down a batch of 6000 letters and get the machine running again with the next batch within about 5 - 7 minutes.Segging,loading,unloading,labelling,downloading data,compiling a daily report,answering e mails and phone calls from angry DOMs in sub offices wondering why their mail is late or walksorted, being hassled by your own workmates because someones mail has to be sequenced last on Saturdays,trying to replace an 8 ft long belt, and all for £4.00 extra a night.
Thank God I retire in 2013 - if I make it till then !!!!!

12 to 8 we have been told but have no clue on the pay grade for working nights also told you get paid extra for cleaning the machines ? any one working on them now no they pay rate ?
