Hey, why don't you email ALL our major customers and ask them to stop advertising ? I am sure you'll be chuckling merrily in the dole queue when the mail that gives you a job and the means to support your family disappears

Why would any member of the public reading these forums need to watch C4's Dispatches programmes to form a negative opinion about Postmen / Postwomen ? Only a complete numpty would rejoice at their employer suffering a permanent loss of work !!!!!!!!!!!

While I agree with the sentiment that we should not be rejoicing at lost business (and workers loosing jobs) I would hope that people who are interested in the Dispatches program or those that find themselves on here would not fall into the same trap as the Producers of Dispatches did, namely that of failing to look any deeper that the surface of post/argument.

I think the reason some are happy about Readers Digest no longer coming through is because of the perceived, and real, lack of support. Posties feel that despite the public assertions of Mail Volumes declining, our own bags are getting heavier and there seems to be more and more of them and yet Royal Mail seem to be somewhat slow at recognising this and the CWU seems(to some) to be in cahoots with them in making duties longer and longer.

In essence some are happy that there will be a small decrease in weight on the shoulder, but in reality I don't think they would be or are celebrating loss of business and jobs that may happen because of it.

But Teebs, if people did the job properly (i.e. weighed their bags), they wouldn't need to 'hope' that RM lose important customers to 'reduce the weight on the shoulder'.

Their bags would still weigh the same as before, precisely BECAUSE they did the job properly and didn't risk long-term injury for the sake of maybe ten minutes off their finish time

Does this mean someone has finally won the Reader Digest Prize Draw , which has been going on the 35 years I`ve been in the job, . Probably why they gone bust , having to finally having to pay out, lol

According to the 3pm news on radio 4, the administrator will continue the business ( including the monthly magazines, and the current prize draw ) until he has completed all negotiations with creditors, potential new owners AND the American parent company ( it's down to the parent company withdrawing support for the UK pension fund that has caused the current crisis )

In short, we're all going to have lots of RD magazines & prize draw letters to deliver for the foreseeable

£230 isn't much better ( not when your wife is unable to work ), but I do care - a lot! If you feel so unconstructive about RM, hand your notice in and go....or wallop your DOM and become a dole mole ( dopn't forget to tell us how much fun you have living on your giro ).

We really have not had anywhere near as much work from readers digest as we used to. They were unpopular in our office years back when the prize draw mailsort was always held back to the second delivery giving you every other house. Its a shame for the old folk who get those little story books/ mags each month as i think thet really like them.

Mind you i think Saga must boost our coffers this month as for some reason all my customers got TWO exact copies of the same mailing
