Whats the procedure?

We've got a new drop at a legal centre, which when you go in has an electronic metal detector thingy, with 2 security guards and 3 admin staff.
You go in, guards busy with incoming people, they sign for delivered stuff - eventually - so there's at least 3 mins lost.
( This is early am, when everyone is going into their work place and defendants/barristers back and forth.)
Then, the guard "requests" you to put their post, which they've just been handed and signed for, into their internal postbox in the wall. More time lost...

I know this may sound petty/pathetic, BUT...once they've signed for it, surely it's up to THEM to put it into THEIR internal postbox?
( There's 5 of them, one of me...)

If I did this on every drop, I'd be hours over my finishing time. Ok, I'm exaggerating, but you get my drift?

Am I entitled to say, "Hang on, this is your mail, which I've just delivered. Now it's up to you to dispose of it."

What's the Proper Procedure with this type of delivery? What am I entitled/required to do?

Once they sign for it then it is no longer your responsibility. Therefore technically it could be classed as attempted theft if you were to pick it up again.

Wouldn't even wait that long. Write out a p739 card stating mail can be picked up at x hours from your do, before you go into this building. If guards are dealing with someone then you wait. If, however, they then deal with the next person and not you then you bung the card over to them and march out back onto your delivery. This is the way it works here. Banks, PO's, Lawyers etc serve the current person and then deal with us. We dont take long whereas customers can take ages so it is only fair to get us seen to.

You dont sort their mail once you have delivered it. Just explain you dont have the time and if they have a problem then contact your office.

if you were delivering to a private address you would not get them to sign for an item the put it on there kitchen table would you

Why worry about it, if it takes longer then just either cut or claim but remember to explain the whole situation to your manager (that is what they get paid extra for ).

Some great advice all, thanks! As it's not my regular round, realised the drop is actually on another town delivery.
So, doing a favour becomes a hassle. Let's all start singing..."That's what friends are for!"
I'll talk to our Superboss tomorrow, and ask for their advice/company line.

Could be worse, they could refuse to sign for anything and you may be asked to deliver to the postroom could mean you have to spend more time in the building. I've got a couple of those regularly get 4-5 bags of Post as well as recordeds and large boxes, pain in the arse waiting for lifts and dragging it around the building, but like they say "thats what were paid for".
