Guidance for reps and members regarding the Royal Mail questionnaires
Would there be any adverse effect legally as far as the union is concerned if we advised our members not to complete the questionnaires?
Non completion of the forms could not be deemed unofficial action but Royal Mail could argue that if staff wilfully refused a management instruction to complete the questionnaires this could open up potential disciplinary action.
The purpose of the questionnaires was in part to ensure Royal Mail don't fall foul of any discrimination legislation - by forcing people to alter start times when this may constitute a breach of race, sex, religion or disability discrimination. Royal Mail has to treat the situation seriously.
How staff complete the questionnaire is a different matter and while this tactic is unlikely to stall Royal Mail's plans we could ask members to respond that "they took the job because of the start and finish times and would only support changes based on agreement with their union (CWU)". Our members could also state “ I want you to reach an agreement with my Unionâ€

my manager put a notice up stating if anybody has a issue with later starts to please speak to him
somebody added later finishes and reach agreement with the union nationally to his notice
the notice stayed up for a week or so and has now been taken down
my question is does this mean my manager can now say hes consulted his staff about issues relating to later starts even though noone has been spoken to indiviaually and as far as i know no one has raised a issue with him apart from the comments made on his notice which i think im right in saying the majority of my office agree with
