Off sick, how often do I update Dom

Have injured my shoulder, doctor says ligaments and need at least 7 days rest, with a steroid injection if all else fails. Are there any guidelines on how often I need to keep my dom updated, he wants me to ring him everyday.

If your Doc says you need at least 7 days rest, then simply tell your Dom that fact, and that you will update him as and when your Doctor advises YOU that you can return to work. Which of course will not be for at least 7 days

On the other hand, if you fancy a bit of 'winding up the Dom' you could always ring the Dom each day as requested and just say 5 words to him.... I won't be in tomorrow.......and put the phone down

what the DOM wants and what he gets are 2 different things. 'Procedure' is that you get a welfare call every day. Don't waste your phone bill !

I was just wondering, if your doctor advises 7 days off but your Dom rings up and says he wants you in to do light duties during this period, what happens if you have an accident at work during the time the dom has insisted , against your docs advice, you come in?

Just seen the "Have you been injured" banner on the site fronted by Esther Rantzen, so pretty apt

get manager to give you letter stating that he or she is putting you back to work against your doctors advice and against
your own wishes,plus type of work being ordered to do since he seems to think he knows what you can and cannot do,
because if anything goes wrong they will not !!! take the blame,cover your own back.

Expect your DOM to ring you up for "a friendly chat" after a few days to check up. Try not to get stressed about it and tell him you will return upon your doctors instructions. Dont get drawn into the "could you do light duties" aspect until you are ready to return. They will prob try it on.

Hope you are well and enjoyed your Valentine's Day celebrations.

I reget to inform you that I have injured my shoulder and my doctor advises I should take complete rest for the next 7 days. I love my job and can't wait to get back but I feel it is wise to follow the advice of a qualified medical practioner. I shall return to work as soon as I get the 'go ahead'. In the meantime, I would be very grateful if you did not invade my privacy by contacting me in person or by telephone. I shall provide you with a weekly email update on my recovery,

Or something like that.

I'll have to be careful though, I'm not quite ready for a relationship yet let alone that sort of commitment . At least I wouldn't have to worry about him ever calling me after

I always thought that if a doctor signs you off you can't return to work before the sick note runs out, unless they (the doc)signs you back on that is.

true, if doctor signs you off you cant work untill the sign off date has expired or he signs you back on. Tell your dom there is no point ringing you everyday as the doctors note signs you off for a week so you wont be returning before that date at the very least.

It usually doesn't stop them trying, though. They think they know more than a GP.

our DOM says we have be contactable at all times when we are off sick and there is no such thing as light duties anymore in our office our area manager put the ky-bosh on that if your not 100% you dont come back
