Hi, advice please iv been with royalmail for 5 weeks and just getting the hang of the job at least im getting fit lol,

the problem is if there are anymore strikes i dont know what to do, i dont want to come in and dont feel its right to go against the union they are there for us, the office where i work is small only about 60 posties and at the last strike they all came in to work even the union rep came in which i find disgusting.
so what do i do be the only 1 that strikes then when my 12 month contract ends be told to get lost, or become a scab and have a better chance of my contract being extended.
also if im the only one on strike they could even give me the sack for striking bloody hell what a mess.

Simple answer. If you are in the Union, and your conscience tells you to take part in Industrial Action, then take part ( ignore the rest of the office & make your own choice....you will feel real pride in yourself ). If you are not in the Union, you cannot take part in IA ( well, I think you can, but RM would be in their right to conduct code you, just the same as if you chose not to come into work without telling them )

I think you should join the Union if you haven't already - but again that is something for your conscience.

There is no simple answer. You have to weigh everything up and go with that. Personally, I can't believe that no-one went on strike before. If you went on strike then you would be swimming against a very strong tide BUT if you did strike then you may convince other waverers to join you. In any case I can't honestly see there being another strike in the near future.

Why don't you contact your branch office and have a chat with them. They would probably welcome some support in your little office.

the protection it affords you from RM's bullying managers is worth £1.50 p/w that you pay
If the local rep is useless, the BYPASS him and deal with the branch rep, or area rep if you have a problem

Its like insurance, when the time comes, you'll be glad you have it !
