our new dom told us in wtl yesterday that come next year it will pretty much be a 9-5 job because once the walk sequancing machines come in some of our mail won't arrive til around 10am the lads and lasses who are on family friendly were told that it would pretty much mean the end of the family friendly. can they do that? or do they have to accomodate us? iam on family friendly but my son starts school in september but will still need flexible hours so i can collect him from school. a lot of people are worried about job losses due to not being able to do the new start times. our lino who is a bit of a pillock said they have to be seen to help us but don't have to if its not in there best interest.

Working after 4pm in the dark plus the traffic coming back from a walk no chance it won't work.

its odd that with all the new high tech, super efficient -super fast machines, that the mail will come in slightly later?##ffs, it should be in earlier.
Instead of starting 120000 posties later, why not start the 10000 drivers/mail centre workers earlier?

Anything going through the walk sequencing machines has to be run through 3 times. Multiply that by however many walks get sequenced on that machine. Some sequencing machines will be doing the sequencing for multiple offices.

Our office has gone from 5.15 1st lorry/6.30 2nd lorry, to 6.00am 1st lorry/7.45 2nd lorry. Today we've been told that from a week monday our times will be 7am 1st lorry with apparantly 90% of mail on it and a small van then at 8am with 'a few trays on it' !
So our new working hours will be 07.15-15.15.
I have to pick my daughter up from nursery at 3pm and then pick my boy up from school at 3.20, both are 20 minutes away from my office.
Guess i'll just have to take my meal relief at the end of delivery then floor it to the nursery!! Happy days!

they have done it once matey,stating the EU directive of 54mph for certain tonnage of vehicles meant later mech mail,instead of starting them earlier OUR start times got later,never inderstood the reasoning of that shite either

Sadly, over the years, more and more posties have ignored this rule, and management turn a blind eye to it. Makes you wonder why people try to safeguard the health and wealthfare of others who are not in the slightest bit interested

The reasons the HGV's run later is because Royal Mail is giving customers later collections. This means the mail is not in the system to move so it has a knock on effect all the way through,and it means early shift payments can go at the offices where the mail then arrives late.
