What IF ?

Post by Puppetmaster »

IF a national agreement were to get voted in by the majority.
lets say accepting the following
Agreeing to 5+D2D a week
4.5 hr delivery rounds -geo routed
And a shift pattern of 4 DAYS OF - 10 hour shifts including 2 saturdays a month at normal finnish time.

LETS - suggest this becomes norm in you delivery office sometime this year.

Now what happens if this shift pattern is totaly unsuitable for you,?
What happens if you feel you cannot do a 4.5 hour geo routed walk 4 days a week?

What happens if their are quite a few others in your office with similar problems
what do you do for a immeadite soloution?

Surley this is a fudemental change to your contract, and if it cannot fit in with your family life and you dont feel up to doing 4.5hr walks , redundancy should be offered straight away ,and under no circumstances should you be made to even attempt any of the above if it is going to cause you stress.

This should be something that should be readily available and sorted out by the CWU as I know in my Office a lot of Wives work afternoon eves.

Alternative employment within the group is not pratical ,as every deilvery office will be in the same problem and mail center is also loosing staff.
even going Part time I would have a 4.5 hr walk todo wich is something I am against on a daily basis, due to the health impact upon your body.

Further I DO NOT KNOW OF any risk assesments by qualified people upon the body doing long geo routed walks daily ?

This is the part that will bite both Royal Mail and the CWU in the arse I think at some point. I think its not beyond the bounds that we might see an advert in the coming decades similar to the NUMs white finger ones of the 90/00's

"Did you work at RM in deliveries between 2008 - 2015. If so and you suffer from Muscular/Skeletal problems then contact 0800 4577 2573 (0800 LOTS DOSH) to register your claim. We believe the CWU and RM failed in their "Due Care" responsibilities and are taking a class action." :cry :cry :cry

I think that is worryingly true.
Wasn't an independent assessment of our workload what we were striking for?

Why do you think there was a massive H&S push not long ago, if RM show they were doing it by the book then any claim would be hard to prove. They would say here is the evidence that Joe and Jimmy were at H&S briefs about pouch weights etc etc so we cannot be held responsible if they have probs, must have been carrying too much over the shoulder....oh why don,t we introduce a system to take the weight of the shoulder....!!!!! less walking...!!! get the picture :mad

Any way RM will tell you if you don,t like the new family friendly hrs  you can always find another job!!!!!!!!!

well i'm up for a national agreement on Mon-Fri 08.00 till 16.00 monthly pay @ £450.00pw which excludes D2D and every letter/packet gets an attempted delivery daily, once the walk sequencing machines are up and running properly across the country.
