reserves team rota

Can I ask others how much in advance is their rota done and given to them?
At my office it is getting done at the last minute all the time, sometimes even getting phoned up the day before with times for next day. I know they have to cover sick but surely it doesn't need to be done so last minute. As we are on different rounds each day, not knowing our day off till almost the day before is frustrating. How much rota does everyone else get in advance and is there a policy saying how much we are supposed to get?

your rep should be going through the rota reserve's 3/4 week's in advance( leave, sick, holiday's, lasping), that's how it's done in my office, but you must remember that being a reserve you can get moved around, so bear this in mind, but notice should be givin asap by your dom, good luck

I work as reserve and get a week off every 6 weeks like everyone but we work 6 days a week. you should get a policy of

week 1 - Monday off
Week 2 - Tuesday off
Week 6 - Saturday off and go on.

The following weeks duties go up on Thursday dinner time ish, but if you ask the right manager they can tell you a couple of weeks ahead, SA's go up at the same time

I always make sure that I know my day off, other than that I seem to get moved around on a constant basis.

Reserves in our office have no idea from one day t the next....

Usually they can count on Tuesday being their day off :roll:

The rotas go up on a friday or saturday for the following week, but these invariably change from one day to the next, no apologies...

Im a reserve, get my duties on the wednesday/thursday before at the latest.
Days off change from week to week which doesnt really bother me, if I know I need a particular day off I usually get it if I give the boss about a weeks notice.

If you have left for work and arrive at DO to be told that it is your day off then we get 2 hours OT for lack of notice.
If we are on the same duty for a week and there is nothing there by thursday then we can choose to have the duties day off for the following week that we are currently on. There is some literature that someone on here can find that says you should get at least a weeks notice of what duty you will be on and what your day off is.

I get sent to a different office basically everyday ( which tbh most days I actually enjoy ) to be given half to three quarters of a duty and get told my day off ( which is 90% a Tuesday surprise surprise ) on the Monday.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Rep should have weekly recourcing meetings,i would of thought you should at least know on a Mon what is going on in the next week!
Days off,if you cover 'Bob' for the week and his day off that week is say Wed then you should get that Wed off! None of this oh it's Tue this week bollox.

Sickness is a different story as if it's unforseen and it's pot luck,but you should still get the day off of the duty holder who is sick.

sorry to get into a game of one-upmanship but i can easily beat that... i quite often get moved from one duty to another and even to a third one, all in the space of one morning depending on who phones in sick.
Being a reserve is total s**t and it becomes a vicous circle... the more duties you learn the more you get arsed around and chopped and changed at a moments notice, and your expected to do every duty just as quick as a walk holder who might have been on the same duty for 10 years

Thanks for your replies, good to know its not just me!!
To be honest I'm not as bothered about being changed onto different duties, as it happens often and I'm used to it. Often have one walk all prepped only to be changed onto another and have to start again. It is frustrating but I guess part of being a reserve.
Our union rep has nothing to do with the rota and I never see him as he is full time and has always left the office before I get there (am part time).
The thing I find more frustrating is not knowing my day off as can never plan anything. Although like others said it is most often tuesday. Yes we should get the day off of the duty holder but they can use us for sick cover on those days and lapse an extra walk on a tuesday can't they?!!
When I first started at royal mail I knew it would take a while to get my own round, just didn't realise it would be years!!!!
