Forced Full time to Part time

Post by Ernie Shoe »

Hello,
We are due to have walk sequencing introduced into our office in June.
Have been chatting to my rep.
The DOM has told him there won't be any buy downs offered.
Rep and Dom have both stated there will be lots of hours going from June and there will be a surplus of full time positions.

I'm assuming they can't force you to go down from fulltime (40 hrs) to part time so if there are no full time vacancies then redundancy has to be offered.
Is this correct?

Thanks!

No they do not HAVE to offer redundancy or "Buy Downs".

They can just make various duties Part Time, but put a FT, or allow it to be picked by a FT (whatever the local agreement is to select duties) and then allow natural wastage (retirement, resignations, discplinaries) to bring the number of full time positions to match the number of FT posties.

But normally they would offer buy downs and redundancies as its cheaper in the long run.

Alternatively they can start sacking people for what could be viewed as minor misdemeanours: - not completing D2D, not wearing cycle helmet, wearing the wrong colour football scarf, not attending WTLL , the list is endless.......
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Thought the walks were all ment to be the same, so what do you mean buy FT walk ans part time walk?

All walks are meant to be the same in duration.

But some offices work on a specific duties being FT or PT in fact that's how I went FT after only 18 months in the job. Others work on a set number of FT employees but don't designate the walks as FT or PT just the duty holder him or her self.

As with most things in RM different offices do things in different ways.

You sign for the hours, the duty belongs to Royal Mail. Look at your job description, at the bottom it should say " or as directed" that means they can move you about.

Same in our office, 12 full time jobs to go. Spoke to the DOM and Rep and they told me that there will be 12 E.V.R's.
