day off!!!!

hey everybody i need a little help, not sure where to start as its a bit of a difficult situation for me but here goes, recently iv been having issues in my personal life and to put it bluntly its been a bit crap, iv felt like crap most of the time and iv been having trouble sleeping for a bit now. any how today is my day off so i thought id stay up late and tire myself out on the good old ps3, great, it worked but i had my dimwit tosser of a dom ring me up bang on six asking if i wanted to work my day of cos someone had gone sick, told him where to go! trouble is i never got back to sleep an spent the next hour almost cryin cos im so fed up of the place its a frickin joke, this week i just gone back after two week off and now i hate the place! monday was ok, tues was crap cos we had to watch a suicide dvd in wtll and i had to do a full 3 1/2 hour walk feelin depressed as hell and wanting to slit my wrists, wed a box of mail came late and i had issues tellin the dim i was cuttin off he looked a me and he had the look of a biweldered ape n i got stressed cos he didnt have a clue wat to do and he just kept sayin you have to take it royal mail dont do cut offs any more you can only stream so you have to take it, i tod him to put in the diary he didnt even kno wat the diary was! im fed up my home lifes crap, my work life been crap and beein harassed by a temp dom is exactly wat i dont need right now. i need to nip in to pick up a parcel today so im goin to get a greivence form to fill in, but im not loomin forward to sat allthough thankfully im off again next week yay!

Hello mate. Seems to me you are experiencing quite a bad time at the moment. I don't suppose working for Royalmail is helping, I can empasise with a lot of the work situations you describe and I'm sure loads on here can as well. There are a few things you say that concern me though. The lack of sleep, difficult home life, suicidal feelings. Seems to me like you are very depressed. I would say you need to tell someone how you're feeling...a family member, work colleage, your doctor or even the confidential Royal mail employee help line (0800 6888 777). I think it could help just to talk the situation through with someone. It might change things in work as well if they knew about the situation as there are probably procedures they have to follow if you have depression / stress. If you're not sleeping properly as well it could make things seem worse than they actually are. let us know how you get on with things. hope this helps. Goodluck.

he has not right phoning you at six in the morning ,he could ask you day before if you would like to although he cant forsee s/l . in our office there is guys the dom knows he can phone that morning because they dont mind and others he dare not phone ( i am one he dosent ask he knows i love my day off ) you need to make it clear to him you are willing to work day off if you get plenty of notice but tell him never to phone you that morning . as for cutting off you DO NOT have to work past your time if you dont want to overtime is optional . he will probably be a bastard with you but have to keep your chin up and get on with it dont let him get to you mate

dom is only there for the week covering our doms week off! my sleep is precious to me the bastard went in to collect a grevience form and saw the union rep, the dom has gone out on delivery himself but get this... he has taken someone out who is on rehab and light duties, and made him deliver the post while he carries the bag for him

i myself feel a lot better i guess like everyone else i have crap days and better days but your right royal mail aint helpin i love the job its just all the crap that goes with it that im fed up of it sems to be gettin worse all of the time, get this on tuesday we were shown a dvd about bullying in royal mail which was the most depressing thing i have EVER seen, worse than an eastenders christmas special! but the strangest thing about it was it made out that the posties were bullying eachother and the manager was a saint? i guess im over that it was just one of them days.

im sure everything will come through for me soon enough im just at one of the crossroad stages in life n not sure which direction to go, i sure as hell dont want to spend the rest of my life working for a company whose management policy is that of bullying, harrasment and corruption!

Put your grievance in on Saturday. Make an appointment to see your doc asap. Use peoplefinder to get your line manager's email. When your doc signs you off sick, inform your line manager by email. Tell him you will be sending in your certificate and politely ask him not to contact you by telephone or invade your privacy in any other way. State that it is your intention to return to work when you are well enough and you will send him a weekly email update on the progress of your recovery.

I was rung at 6:30am on my day off too, wife answered the phone and told the DOM I didn't live there, , next morning he asked me why I hadn't told him I'd moved, I told him the wife was yanking his chain, because she hates being woken up at 6am by some knobhead who needs to get a life !!, well thats what she said to me when I asked her who it was ringing at 6:30am

I know exactly how you feel I have felt like that many a time. I have been phoned up on my day off too, I was asked why was I late... the manager didnt realise it was my day off!!!!

I found the best way to cope was to tell myself it's just a job. When I go in, I do what they want until my finish time after that they can screw themselves. If I have to cut off and they don't like it, tough s**t because I have worked my time and there ain't a damn thing they can do about it.

I have also convinced myself that one day I will get out of that shithole, as thinking I might be stuck there for another 30 years would push me over the edge

Switch or unplug your phone when you go to bed and try to do something outside of work that will take your mind off it. Excercise is good, although if you are too tired then anything that will stop you thinking about the job and how s**t it is will do. Watch films, listen to music, take up computer gaming and shoot people online [that really helps!]

Most importantly of all don't let the bastards get ya down!

They have cheek ringing peoples phones at that hour. Just because the manager is up and at work for a hour and a half they think everyone else in the country should be.
When I was sick last March I was off for a month, I rang a colleague of mine at 7 pm the Night before and said tell them the line manager I won’t be in tomorrow, so next day I went to the Drs got a sick note for two weeks, gave my postman the sick note to bring to the office, so basically the line manager had all the information he required and when I was due back.
Low and behold two days on what did he do, he rang me at home at 9. Am he said it’s a welfare check, he wanted to know how I was. I told him “listen pal you passed me on the ips isle five or six times a day every day last week and not once did you ask me how I was, so why on earth are you asking now”
I then said “I’m not in Benidorm, Cyprus or Greece, that’s why your ringing me checking where I am,, I’m in my own home on my mobile talking to you, please don’t ring me again whilst I’m on the sick, this is harassment” He never rang again.

So it seems a lot of people are in the same position, love the job but have the crap that comes with it, mainly the bullying managers..

How much longer is this gonna go on for?..
