Getting the school holidays as your annual leave

I remember not so long ago our dom saying that we could buy extra holidays, the school holiday period, with a drop in wages. Does anyone know if this is still valid

Wish it was for me. One (not the only ) of the reasons I took the job ( im pretty young ) was to help save up for holiday with my mates in June and I got April as my ''summer'' holidays!

i know how u feel ive never worked anywhere where your holidays are chosen for you like this

im fine with it this year since i just started but next year i better get some time in the summer.....

I'm no going into my 4th year with RM upto now never had sch hols off as always been to far down the pick list. However this year the list was re written and am near the top so 3 out of my 5 weeks are now in sch hols, no doubt it will be back to normal next year.

you can buy extra holidays but you dont get them straight away and the money comes off your wages every week ( not sure cost ) but you dont get to take them when you want , everyone signs for their holidays ( seniority ) and people with extra or bought holidays then sign for their extra weeks

I think this would depend on your local agreement/arrangements.
In my MC if you buy extra AL (or have more AL due to length of service) you can still
only take a maximum of 4 weeks during the main summer leave period (1 June to 1 October),
which would be signed for as in the Way Forward Agreement (ie rotated).

But we do have a family friendly arrangement so that if you have young children (under 15 I think)
you can sign for 4 weeks together during the school summer holidays - this is signed for seperately
from the general AL signing.

I believe it is actually illegal to leave children of 14 or younger on their own.

The leave in my office is first come first served. Nobody has a problem with it. It only gets allocated when none is requested and after it is allocated the DOM will change it if staffing allows. Pretty flexible.

Yep same here, first come first served. Maximum 14 people off in one week. Only allowed 2 weeks off between May and August but come March/April when everybody has plenty of time to get there leave in if there is spaces in these months you can usually put more weeks in.

Also you can purchase more leave upto a maximum of 6 weeks but if you currently have 4 weeks off and you wish to purchase 2 more weeks it will cost you about £10 per week out of you wages .

Your local agreement determines how your leave is selected (as long as it is within the way forward guidelines)

It is against both union and company policy to use seniority to pick annual leave.This is set out in the Way Forward Agreement.

your telling me fishtank say you have been there 10yrs someone else 10 weeks they get 2 weeks holiday july that you wanted maybe even a delivery you wanted you wouldnt say f**k all about it ( no seniority ) dont bloody think so
