Absorption

In Our Office 18 months ago the D.O.M said when the phase one came in that nobody leaves the office till 10 am 18 Months down the line they are shouting that the Absorption Walk is ready to take out some mornings at 7.30 am. But that’s ok now. One side of the office is coming in a hour before their start time a running out like knobheads doing their part and gloating it about to the other section, that they have done their piece.
If every office started coming in at the right time and take their breaks, this would not happen. The managers think because those early birds can absorb, I should, can these knobs not see what damage they are doing.
I Would rather kill time in the warm office than absorb for them. Soon it will be two walks we are absorbing.
When this first came in it was called summer walks. I asked my manager the other day to book me two weeks in a hotel that’s on the summer walk, he asked why, I told him the sun seems to shine all year round in this area according to Royal Mail…
When is idiots going to listen. Come in on your time.. Take your breaks… and not throwing off like numpties in my office with a sandwich in their hand…
Saying that you early birds has ruined it all ready……..so you get what you deserve now……

Actually i think it was the best idea the CWU had...if it had been coupled with clocking in machines.

If you want to finish early then fine, only you wont get paid for it.

Actually, why are Royal Mail still using paper to sign in/out? Everything else is being automated. Surely this is one of the easiest things to implement?

We started off with 13 postie to a walk for our absorbtion but now were down 7 and covering 4 walks a day. Yet still you have a couple of fools who get in an hour early and try to rush the absorbtion which of course is not prepared quick enough for them.
So do they help out thier mates by prepping the absorbtion walk, of course not, they go out and do a couple of roads of their own walks whilst they are waiting.

We have 3 coaches,last one roughly 8-9ish.

If they are going out with the absorption before they do their walk , then do they not realise that they could be asked to do more absorption at the end of there duty? Why i hear you ask.....they have to work their eight hours. so if they do absorption first, then do their walk ,then have time left when they finish, they SHOULD be asked to to do more absorption to go to the end of there time.

They won't be asked though because it suits management to let them believe they are gaining something.
If they were asked to really work their hours then they would start doing the job properly and there would be NO absorption.
It's all a big con which only the truly stupid fall for.

the trouble is it has to be applicable to everyone,and as not everyone returns to the office,no manager would leave themselves in a position of having grievances lodged against them,you could not reasonably expect someone that comes back to take out extra work,while at the same time placing everyone else on job and finish.
in my opinion,it's not about managers ensuring you have enough work to fill your time,or being as efficient as possible,but simply ticking the boxes,what annoys me is managers that are happy to flog a dead horse,but are not keen to work all the hours themselves.

We have the early starters and fliers in our office aswell ,what i am saying is , is that you have to work your 8 hours, no matter what. so these guys take out their absorption whle waiting for the missorsts to come in, then comeback for the missorts and off they go on delivery,they will finish early and go home. All i am saying that if they have spare time at the end of their walk they should be made to take out more absorption, or STOP coming in feckin early and killing the FECKIN jobs

Some people (knobheads) just never learn. They run around and do absortion so that they can still get away early. They don't seem to grasp the fact that management see that these morons still have more time available so will just Lapse another round.

madmax soo true mate, soo true. im 20hrs pt and come in dead on 9.30 and the whole office is dead!!! im the last one to leave, people racing around just to get back and do sorting in order to get away at best 20mins early!!! our dom is now saying gonna have to make lapsing 80 calls and everyone is moaning aout it!!! absolute fools

i posted a similar theme to this the other day,it was nt just about absorbing in the summer but about the job in general and all the knobheads that dont do it properly,now what i said in my post and what i told our dom was that enough was enough and they are now only able to make cuts because they allow this to happen and that if they didnt now make people start on time and use the vans and take a break then the people in our office who did do the job properly would seek legal advice against the royal mail for allowing this to go on,as you can guess i didnt get much of a reply off the dom,any ideas as to where that legal advice may get us?

I don't think helping a load of fat cat solicitors will do you as much good as informing those who will come in early and carve up the job by cutting corners and their hours as well as their own throats!.

totally agree but ive been in the job 20 years and u know as well as i do that these people will never stop on there own even if u give the dull sods 5 hour walks,as so maybe the only way to stop them is for someone to make them stop in any form they can.
