The end of the CWU?

In the area I work local CWU reps are dropping like flies, there are so many vacancies that even our rep is thinking about jacking it all in. Have we reached the end of the line for the CWU? I hope not, but they have lost a lot of front line support in recent years with their strange tactics from the top

Being a Union Representative has always been a thankless task, whichever industry, through good times and bad. I must confess being a CWU Rep does present particular challenges on a daily basis though.

Will the CWU die? No, I don't believe so. Worker representation is vital to all and sundry and it is really only through having a nationally-recognised body that can happen.

You've hit the nail on the head there fishtank, I think the problem is most reps are feeling like Ahebban right now, they do have a lot of crap to deal with on a daily basis for no reward whatsoever. Hopefully the PEC wills upport their efforts for once.

I haven't given up the fight in any way, shape or form. I was merely pointing out the obvious in respect of being a Union Representative in response to the original post.

For example, Union Reps like myself are quite possibly going to be in the unenviable position of supporting an Agreement they personally do not like because that is the official position of the CWU. They may also have the unenviable task of generating support for industrial action from colleagues who feel badly let down by the leadership of the CWU.

I am not alone in having to face the day-to-day barrage of questions referring to the upcoming Agreement and the lack of any information, let alone detailed information from the CWU. It is a ridiculous state of affairs when you can find more information pertaining to CWU business here on RMC ( ) than on the official CWU website!

If the CWU should go down the road of unions before it and die a death, it will be a self-inflicted one. I truly hope that is not going to be the case for all our sakes.

In that case, if as a rep and union member you don't agree with the deal, tell your members on a personal level you do not agree with the deal, be honest with them, and your branches position is to either support it or not.

If longer del spans and an increase in D2DS is agreed by our union and they then wont me to go and sell that to the members in my office I WILL NOT .

I will do everythink in my power to get a NO vote off every member i represent.

Just because the union says its a great deal doesnt mean we have to accept that but i think your an intelligent chap that realises that.

Being a rep at present is BOLLOXS im sick to the back teeth of the daily shite thats tried on by R/M management and more importantly im disgusted at the CWU hierachys lack of info.

Instead they have chosen to have a news blackout and i bet at the advice of R/M.

I said to a few trusted members in my office that in 2010 our fight will not only be with R/M but also with our own union and i still believe that theres been nothink to change my mind.

Im fecking ready for a good old scrap with either side.

When i started in my office 11 years ago the union rep then is now a Floating Manager. Turncoat or what!!!

When i started in my office 11 years ago the union rep then is now a Floating Manager. Turncoat or what!!!

The thing is people are allowed their own decisions it is their choice as to weather you trust them that is your decision!. How far can you throw him/her?
