Can the Royal Mail force you to deliver d2ds' if you don't sign the claim sheet? As i see it, because you are being paid an extra amount for doing them, it is not part of your contract ie like overtime, and as that is voluntary you shouldn't be forced to do them if you don't want to.
I wonder is that why RM want to incorporate them in to your basic pay, then you wont really have the choice.

all part of your terms and conditions,when you sign the contract you've agreed to take them,the only exception to this,seems to be if a walk is uncovered and gets taken by a manager,i've never known one yet do them.

postman, someone was sacked at ours, but that was for not doing them but claiming. If you dont claim for them, i dont think they would have a leg to stand on if you wanted to take them to court as you aren't defrauding the business, as is what people are sacked for. I don't think it mentions that you Must do D2ds in your contract of employment, as i said in the post it is a seperate payment not in your wages. If someone challenged this, i'm sure the RM would lose.

robd exactly, if a particular walk isn't covered all week by an individual, but several, they don't get delivered just left. This can go on for weeks on end, and does, no repercussions. RM are then defrauding who ever the company is that want the D2Ds' delivering. Double standards.

I don't recall it being a prerequisite in my contract when joining, just expected. A bit like the situation we are faced with now with cars/vans on delivery. RM now expect you to be able to drive, this wasn't in your contract of employment either, only the need to be able to ride a bike.

I worked with a chap who used to pay his girlfriends brother to do them for him,one day a young AG queried him as that weeks were still under his frame.Oh its ok said the posty i pay someone to do them for me,then the AG went and grassed him to the managers.Within a week the posty(13 years in)had been sacked and six months later the AG he told had been made a manager.Ironicly i tranferred 12 miles away and th AG became our dom,he tried to sack me for something ridiculous but ballsed the whole thing up,i ended up with a two year serious.

jaylime that practice takes place at our office, and seems fine, as whoever does them just puts their name, pay number instead of you. An example when the weather was bad the other week with snow etc, and this was having an effect on deliveries, i had three lots of D2Ds that week, and as i was unable to do them, although the manager wanted me to sign for them and do them the following week, with a further 3 lots, i said i wouldn't sign the sheet as that was fraud, so he got someone else to do them, and paid them. Just shows you that if you don't allow them to pressure you into doing them, they can't really force you to, if you stand your ground. As long as you don't sign the sheet, i think that's the cardinal sin.

Although not covered specifically in your contact there will be a section on "Collective Agreements" and this is what they fall under. The CWU have an agreement with RM for us to deliver D2Ds and even if you are not a member you will fall under the auspices of that agreement.

i questioned the returning of the d2d sheets on a thursday or friday morning, we were told by the phgs that they had to be in friday morning at the latest. I said i would sign and return my one after i had completed them all when returning to the office after fridays delivery as if anything happened out on my delivery which made me unable to deliver the d2ds i could be charged with falsely claiming. I was shot down in flames by my manager and the arse lickin phgs. But i thought it was a good point!
