ive been cited for apperance at court of thurs as a witness, am i entiled to the day off? the manager is under the impression i am due in to work at some stage of my shift, anyone help wih some advice on this please?

same rules apply as to Jury Service if you have been summoned you must appear but your DOM may ask to swap day off
to cover it as a witness you will normally only be required for one day

thanks for that, i thought i was entitled to the day off, i explained i could be sitting there a while before i get called and i may need to to be called twice due to the case, my manager couldnt run a race

If you need to take time off work, you should show your employer your
witness warning letter as proof that you have to go to court.Your
employer does not have to pay you for time off work when you appear as
a witness. But if you do lose pay, you can claim a witness allowance for loss
of earnings (see page 22 for more details about claiming expenses).The
loss-of-earnings payment may be less than your actual loss of earnings.

you most certainly do not have to swap your day off (no wonder royal fail get away with things with guys like this) you are doing work for the justice system and they cannot demand you use your day off

I did jury service several years ago. Had a case the first week which lasted from Monday to Friday. After we finished at lunchtime on the Friday, we were told to report back to the court the next Tuesday... This we did, only to be told that we weren't needed for the rest of the week as things stood at that time... So, they said go home, but don't go too far, because we will call you if something comes up. So, effectively I had an extra week off... Decided not to tell work. Although I could hardly go in if 'on call' to the courts.

No doubt these days you'd have a manager ringing you every day to ask whether or not you were in court that day...
