Early 05:00 Shift Allowance

If the Royal Mail change the duty times they will cease to pay this allowance saving themselves in the region of £1.7 million a week, on top of what other savings they are already making. We were only able to keep the allowance as part of the 2007 agreement because of the furore it caused, and it was only to be paid for 2 years.
Have the Union thought about this in their negotiations as well as a pay rise, backdated, and bonuses for "modernisation". I doubt it very much, sold down the river again. I have lost all faith in the CWU,there is no point in further strikes, everyone should stop paying their union subs, and join Unite instead.

In answer to the original post, the early shift allowance is protected by 'grandfather rights' which means that it does not end after 2 years, only if you change jobs (within RM).
