The last bit of information I can find on these three is this:
'Bristol 3' take Royal Mail fight to tribunal
http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/news/Bri ... ticle.html
Hundreds of trade unionists marched through Bristol in support of three sacked postal workers:
http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/bristolr ... ticle.html
Does anyone know what happened to the Bristol three?
Did they go to a tribunal?
Thanks.

With Kay , RM settled on the Saturday before the Monday of the Tribunal , the CWU Barrister still had to get a stay , with the other two , they were " mysteriously " reinstated just before Tribunals too ; nothing to do with the press and RM having a weak case
RM would take Kay back on the proviso , she accepted a punishment short of dismissal - a warning , she is to be commended for calling RM's bluff and taking them to the wire .
Bristol is an apparently a well organised Union Branch

Thanks for the reply Norbert. I have noticed with all RM cases they like to keep them very quiet and often the employment tribunals go unreported.
Could you tell me what you mean by this please.

I think it's vaguely or broadly similar to a stay of execution in those films - the phone call etc . The Tribunal still goes ahead in a sense but I think it's a required formality to say the Tribunal is not needed in the circumstances to wind things up .La Poste wrote:Thanks for the reply Norbert. Re: The Bristol 3
It's very rare that the CWU will back someone at an employment tribunal.
The excuse they give is they don't want to get hammered with costs and as I have said before tribunals hardly ever award costs to the other side.
This is an unusual case in the CWU did back it. I guess the result reflects what a good legal team can do for you.
Just found this. What a great website this is:
I can't find anything more from the CWU than this, I would have thought they would have advertised this case more.

The cases involving the three members in Bristol sacked as a result of the dispute last year have now been satisfactorily resolved. All three have been returned to work and although this was not at their original office it was at offices that were acceptable to them all. This result was due both to the magnificent campaign mounted by the Bristol Branch and by the support they received from throughout the Union.

Sounds like the Branch doing most of the work but backed up by CWU HQ http://www.cwu.org/justice-for-the-bristol-three..html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

H******l did an article with " quotes " admitting their " guilt " , then it was " mysteriously " toned down .Allegedly according to a very good source
, the Fluffy Site were very nervous about it , and their RM plants tried to defend the indefensible , so someone called their bluff .
There was threats from one of their plants about people "speculating"
which could make things very difficult for reinstated staff .
Sounds very much that RM wanted scalps
and to be fair to Fluffy - the orders must have come from very on high

Re: The Bristol 3
I also think it shows how one layer of management will allways defend the next layer even if the initial decision is wrong. I don't know if this is peculiar to Royal mail or all businesses are like this but it seems that once a decision is made lower down the ranks it will be defended all the way to the top.
It's almost as if Royal mail are constantly making a point out of everything they do management wise, we see it time and time again, they are basically saying that a manager is never wrong and we will allways defend our managers decisions to the end.
A very inflexible attitude IMO and in this day and age a very outdated one too.
Then again maybe the whole thing was deliberate and Royal mail wanted to send a message that if you strike we'll have your job.

Re: The Bristol 3
the usual complaint is RM's " moral " crusades - in everything they do .
Just seems strange that they didn't try to sack any reps - and there was a lot of people Uk - wide they could have gone looking for on here
Dave Ward would have brought them out - if a strike goes Regional , there will be orders to sort it , if it isn't - it's the starve 'em back to work one . Just wondered who is trying to impress who & whom

Re: The Bristol 3
Maybe it was just this rogue manager to blame then. The manager chose his victims and once the proceedure of dismissal had started RM had no choice but to support him all the way to the end. This seems to be the way they do things down at RM.norbert wrote:the usual complaint is RM's " moral " crusades - in everything they do .
