Obviously the regulator would have to be convinced and of course the "union" seem to think it would cost jobs; considering how RM are going now to turn us into a part-time industry I really can't understand what little shred of hope the union is holding onto?

The businesses that push through their mail for Saturday delivery ( when people are more likely to pay attention to it ) like us working on Saturdays....and also it is something our rivals won't do - plus it is in the USO. The only way I can see it being changed is if things were changed back to Saturday overtime ( but I don't know how that worked as it was before my time - I imagine with walks as they are now, I can't see them being covered as easily as they used to be ).

Slave, at the moment every office is ( or should be ) set up so for every 5 duties there are 6 opgs ( 5 duty holders + 1 floater ) so all of them work 5 out of 6 days......remove one of those service days, then you would have RM working out how to justify 6 opgs for 5 duties over 5 days, - could you justify that? If not, how do you want to decide who goes & how do you tell them?

nothing liek having the monday off on rotation and coming into a queit tuesday tho :)

I can see businesses up and down the land loving that one - when I go into any for bag drops, they still ask if I have mail for them, even after I would have given it to them if I had any!

Exacty FishTank and SJ, I too was promised 'more hours' three years ago... still waiting. Not all Full Timers, but some, seem to look at Part Time staff as scum, it's really pathetic.

Solidarity? Wash your mouth out - the new speak is LOCAL NEGOTIATIONS. I don't know about your office but ours has about a 60/40 split. Now please bear with me because what I am about to say will fly in the face of preserving full time jobs BUT we have lost 40% of full time jobs in the last 5 years - those duties still remain BUT are now completed by part time staff who do the standard 3 D2Ds a week and may well go over their time in the process - lets increase that to 5 a week - now how many extra hours is his contract going to get - well I'd hazard a guess at eeerrrrm - NONE - the time taken will added to his overtime hours, so exactly whose full time jobs are we preserving and are any full time jobs going to be created? I could hazard another guess but why bother.

we have part timers in our office that only do sats

full time for all 35 hours no loss of wage...................hours saved used to make part timers up to full time were it is wanted by the part timers

Some of us don't wanna be FT, if my boss offered me FT, i'll tell her were to stick it, we are treated terribly by our manager as a 24hr postie, i dont need the grief for another 12 hours a day.
