Seniority no longer counts
It has just been announced in PO and SO districts that part timers will have first picks on duties and surplus fulltimers will therefore be relegated to leave reserves. A full re-sign is expected in the next month or so. Apparently this was part of the previous "Way Forward" agreement. if I find that the CWU have accepted this then I will leaving the union as I would be wasting good money on the subs. Any other districts heard about this?

Re: Seniority no longer counts
Then this cant be a FULL signing. In our last resign of course us full timers were not allowed to sign for the part-time walks and of course because the only walks they make are part-time now and when someone leaves it goes part-time all the full timers that had half decent walks opted out of the signing,(which you could do under way forward) meaning those of us with s**t walks were stuck with themor go reserve. Thats why weve got people with 10years on reserve and newbies straight on walks.

If this is the case, then the DIM would need to designate each duty to whoever they felt was best suited

If there are FT vacanies lets say you have 5 of them and you have 10 PT wishing to be FT, you take the 5 most senior PT and make them FT. This needs to be before the resign!!!
When the full resign takes place a seniority list should be displayed, the new FT will be in that list and their position like everyone else will be based on length of service and they will take part in the repick just like any other FT. People do tend to get displaced in a full resign, thats just a unfortunate fact of life of full resigns in RML.
I assume as its a full resign every duty is either vacant, incurred major change or voluntarily been given up? The way forward allows OPG's to keep their duty if it has not incurred major change. Download a copy from this site and have read.
Can you give us details please of how PT duties/OPG's operate at your D.O/MC?
At my D.O we keep it simple , we have FT and PT duties and PT OPG's can move about PT duties when a duty is vacant or a resign takes place based on seniority and FT OPG's do the same with FT duties.

in our office
where Executive Action was imposed
8 f/t duties were lost .3 EVRs were offered and accepted
the 3 f/t duties lost to EVRs became p/t
which means if your full time, your prospects are limited.

The law also states that as a full timer you can not be treated any different than a part time member of staff and vise versa, the only time that we can use seniority is where duty's are concerned. They have done some very dumb things in the office i am based at,from what i have heard today it's all gone a bit Pete Tong.

Portsmouth and Southampton, I work in the portsmouth area and there is some truth in what Surrymonkey is saying.Jenny Manchester wrote:surreymonkey wrote:It has just been announced in PO and SO districts that part timers will have first picks on duties and surplus fulltimers will therefore be relegated to leave reserves. I returned to work today after a week off to find out (Devsional rep) had got all the area reps together and told them that all part timers must now be given a walk, the result is that the area rep has decided that a certain random five walks out of 40 will be part timers leaving us a repick on the 35 remaining.
All this has to be done by Friday this week leaving me to belive its tied into this coming deal somehow, Anyway.... Ease up on Surrey you lot.

Re: Seniority no longer counts
I have to say I have always found the situation at RM to be bizarre.
Being a reserve is the hardest job in a DO yet it is usually covered by the least experienced people - ie those just in the door.
And usually they make a pigs ear of it because of their inexperience.
I have always thought the reserves should be full-timers who know what they are doing and they should be paid extra for doing a crap job.
It wouldn't really cost RM any more as what they lose paying a FT to do the job well, they will gain by not paying a novice o/t to do the job badly.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Seniority no longer counts
Still nothing announced in our PO office
Told this morning an indoor review needs to be agreed by friday, but most people are thinking of telling RM to shove it until the new national agreement is reached. This comes after management couldnt make the new hours fit the workload even after they hijacked the review from the then rep who couldnt make it fit. They have now offered to make 12 PT up to FT but take out the remaining night duites.
Anyway, RM explicitly stated in the terms of the interim agreement that no more changes would take place until said agreement is finalised, so why are they trying to force the issue by this friday?
I smell local strike if they force this through via EA.
