Let's split the union into it's previous constituent parts, namely the UCW and NCU.

Worst move ever amalgamating two entirely distinct unions, (though in reality, less "amalgamating" and more "take-over") as no-one on the NCU side ever admits it was either a good move or that they ever voted for it.

Perhaps then the NCU "side" wouldn't keep being called out over "Peagus" or "mangers" disputes only to find out subsequently that many posties worked normally.

As much as the CWU piss me off I think everyone should remain with them. Change the leadership by all means but if members split into other unions/groups it would be a disaster. The little power the CWU has is down to the strength in numbers. Smaller groups would just be pushed around by management even more

You are absolutely right we are in a very difficult position,we can't leave the CWU because that would dilute our strength,we cannot easily change our leadership and anyway the infighting and "jockeying for position" this would cause would likely tear the union apart.
I cannot believe everyone at HQ is either inept or corrupt,some must feel as we do.

So what i would ask is for those at HQ who are unhappy with the direction this union is heading.

I'll have to stick with the CWU, can't see RM letting another union in. I'm not happy with the CWU though, my local rep seems the only one who has my interest at heart. HQ want a kick up the arse

The romantic notion that a few lone voices in Wimbledon, free from the taint of corruption that is obviously rife there, can transform the CWU into something worthy of the fine body of men & women it should effectively represent, doesn't ring true for me, I'm afraid.
The CWU will have gone the way of the Liebour party for me, an institution my principles will prevent me from ever supporting again.

It doesn't ring true for me either Harry but if they are there and they keep quiet then they are no better than the rest in my opinion.

I would imagine the few "good apples" we have left in the CWU, are vastly outnumbered by the many rotten ones, sooner or later, we'll all have to reach the inescapable conclusion that we, the membership, will have to bring the Wimbledon den of inequity down round the ears of people, whose wages we pay, but who cannot be arsed to protect the good that is in what little remains of our working conditions.
We cannot, must not, let fear of what might happen, from doing what we must surely do, one day.

One thing that is for sure, another bad deal for postal workers, and one which ticks all the managements boxes on their wish list, will be one too many for a lot of postal workers, myself included.

RM would love it , been in a Industry with three unions representing staff , Management loved it . The rivalry between two of them is legendary , goes back to the Union Barons in the 70's who hated each other .

I get the distinct feeling that the CWU HQ are under the impression that we have nowwhere else to go and as such, we should be greatful for the crumbs that they throw to us. Maybe, just maybe, they could be in for a shock !

We did lose a hell of a lot of members due to Privatisation , the Union has re-risen from the Ashes , basically they got rid of the " corrupt " right wing old guard in charge , and the over centralisation , however there is a leadership that wants to turn the clock back to 1917 or 1970 at times - a bit The Pied Piper calling the tune .

Threatened more strikes than a Zippo Lighter according to the other Union - Most think the strikes that the leader calls are fair though .

There has been a breakaway Union formed which is NOT recognised by the Employer , that goes back to the " Bonding BBQ " for another union & it's leaders ,and the subsequent Court Cases , Industrial Tribunals and Press Coverage ! .

RM planned the absolute bare minimum by law recognition on that Panorama programme for the CWU , throwing down the gauntlet & giving Billy & Dave ; a lot of fires to put out .

Looking at the voting so far, opinion is very much divided... which is what I fear would happen should this ever be implemented
