rumours and more rumours
talked to my union rep on saturday morning who had heard the latest coming out of the talks (he knows someone who is assistant to one of the top people, without naming names, if you get what i mean)
d2d-unoin are willing to accept uncapped d2d into workload, therefore protecting jobs, sticking point is the one off bribe and whether you receive an allownace per week, paid for the first 3 lots etc.
payrise-taking into account inflation the pay rise would theoretically be a pay cut because the payrise was 1% which is lower than the rate of inflation
delivery spans-management still want an actual last letter time ie 2pm/3pm but the earlier your last arrival is into the office the longer your delivery span. As i understand it if you are on a walk that takes 4.5 hours you will be timed to leave the office so that you can complete the delivery. so take your 40 min break off 2pm=1.20pm. 1.20pm-4.5hrs=8.40am first letter.
he also said that the executive are meeting at the end of the week so that some kind of deal is imminent.
don't shoot the messenger!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd quite happily do say 5 D2D's a week if they were packed together in 1 envelope. Would expect payment for doing them though, at least 5p an envelope. If the union agree a lump sum and then lift the present limit of 3 a week id be absolutely fuming with them.

What cash?
Where has there been mention of significant sums of money in the snippets we have been given?

There is bound to be a cash incentive somewhere, I would'nt call the 2007 carrot a significant amount of money but it got them a Yes voteBig Daz wrote:What cash?

Re: rumours and more rumours
what worries me is it was only £500(iirc)that got them a yes vote in 2007.

i may be a bit slow on understanding these talks but what have the Union asked for on OUR BEHALF to make things better for us posties tramping the streets everyday. All we seem to be hearing about is what the RM are offering us...which in my mind is not beneficial to us at all. So come on union tell us what you think WE want out of this!

I think it may be a bit late as i suspect by now they are having a few drinks to celebrate the 2010 PAY & MODERNISATION MK 2 AGREEMENT.

Re: rumours and more rumours
Viking thats a great question.
The answer is this
1. The union wants to ensure that everyone who wants to remain in the business can do so including if you want to remain full time.
2. The union want agreed standards based on acas standards which mean members cannot be bullied by managers who invent un recognised and un achievable standards and then bully people who can achieve them
3 The union wants to see members work less Saturday then now and less days in the week as well so want to go further than just the normal 5 day week. So if Royal Mail want people to work later Monday to Saturday than they will have to agree to less Saturdays and different attendances during the week. Remember not everyone in every office will need to work later than now but the principle of less saturdays and less days will still apply to them.
4. The Union wants to see the biggest pay rise ever out of this deal.
5. The Union wants to have the colleague share lump sum paid regardless of whether the targets are achieved.
6. The Union wants to end the job and finish mentality which cuts up the job and allows for Royal Mail to continue to cuts jobs. How many of us see people coming in before their time , work during their break and drive their own car out on delivery. Years ago Royal Mail turned a blind eye now they use that same mentality to attack full time jobs.
7. The union wants to either intrduce a gross reduction in the working week or a net one depending whether members want to increase their hourly rate.
8. The union wants to ban the use of private cars on delivery and whilst we are not totally convinced on the use of Car derived vans , the bussiness has a policy to introduce them. Personally I think it will be another disaster for them in some localities but no one in Royal Mail who has authorised the purchase of them to the tune of £420 million is going to concede that at this stage.
9. The Union wants to ensure that in future the actual delivery span includes everything replishment time , travelling and proper allowance for attendance calls. Instead of the current Royal Mail 2008 geo route which maps your walk first pont to last point of delivery without replishment time.
10. The union wants to ensure that the deal introduces a new relationship enviorment which removes bullying and harrassment from the workplace.
11. MTSF is imporved especially for mail centre staff who have to re locate or on excess fares etc.
12. Improvements on partinity and matenity.
13. Sorting out last years pay freeze issue.
14 Ensuring any further change has full union invoirment at the earliest possible moment in order for the union to influence the plan.
15 plus loads of other benefits.
16 In addition the union wants to resolve the pension issue by the Govenment taking on the defcit thereby meaning that Royal Mail would not need to pay 30pence in every pound they make back to the pension fund this will allow for the bussiness to become more profitable and therefore mean that not only will we save further jobs but will have better benefits.
So I hope that provides some answers. The details of what we are looking for cannot be revealed on here for obvious reasons.

4. The Union wants to see the biggest pay rise ever out of this deal.
Yes but will it be a real pay rise or will it just be a rise in hourly rate partially negated by a reduction in paid hours.
Will it make a real difference to TAKE HOME pay or will it just be money taken from elsewhere i.e D2D.
BTW viking asked "So come on union tell us what you think WE want out of this!"
Maybe you could explain the research done to get from "what we want" to what "the union wants"
