A thought occurred to me and was wondering if we could get rid of most of our problems by not working Saturdays? This would free up the floaters who could take permanent duties made up from what is left behind after cut-offs. As I understand the packets is the most lucrative part of RM so keep Saturdays available for O/T packets and collections.

People don't really need mail on a Saturday right??

So you're saying that the people who have businesses and open on Saturdays won't want their mail? Tell that to the shops and businesses on my delivery then!

If the shop isn't open then don't take it then! Shops/businesses are open on my walk so I deliver it and anyway what time are you delivering then if you are saying this then?

then again if some of the not delivered on satarday stuff was sent out tuesday......... there wouldnt be this "drop in mail volume" they talk about.

Royal Mail are now a business and the time of delivering mail and providing a service at the convenience of the receiver is long gone.

We are now work at the behest of big business, corporate greed, DSA Leeches and the senders of large volumes of mail. If they see a benefit to mail be delivered on a Saturday which has a positive impact on their bottom line, and they do, we will continue to have Saturday deliveries.

As to loosing another day in the week to make a 5 day delivery and cut down on costs, sorry that won't happen either as it would be a Political decision even if we were a completely Privatised business, and if its going to loose politicians votes its usually a non starter.

Floaters would not have a job if the business moved to Mon - Fri.
