IB - Why do they instil so much fear in Postie's ?

Why is there such fear of these people? I've only been with RM for 12 months, but the fear just the mention of the letters 'I B' creates is laughable. All this is backed up by stories of the IB coming in and removing people from the premises never to be seen again! The staff make it sound like they are abducted and shot at dawn.

Not even management are immune to the threat of the IB. We had a whistle blower who grassed the manager up for what was essentially a very minor procedural matter, but this has made him extremely nervous, but also very vindictive towards all the staff. I must have heard him say a dozen times this week that he's not putting his job on the line for the likes of us, etc etc . He is also now doing his best to make our life as uncomfortable as possible. Some of this panic may stem from the fact that he is essentially incompetent, but nevertheless the fear of the IB is tangible in the office.

RM are governed by the same employment law that any other employer has to work within, why do the IB strike the fear of God into RM staff ?

Essentially correct except where the various Postal Acts come in. Only RM workers can be found guilty of certain crimes that fall within that act hence the reason for the existence of the IB. BTW did you know the IB is the oldest Investigation force in the world.

He is right though I personally don't worry or care about the IB at all, even if they target me they'll find it hard to fit me up or find anything I do to be criminal or sackable.

None of the stories I have heard have been for theft. They have all been procedural. For example a neighbouring DO postie parked his van at the end of a customers drive with engine running. IB jumped in the van and drove it back to the DO where he was later dismissed (presumably after calling a taxi).

Other things such as a box of mail on the passenger seat / smoking in the vans etc etc

We must be the office that time forgot then. Heard one of ours got pulled for not carrying his bag which was in his car boot, they then took him to his car where he showed them.

The I/B are only feared by people doing somethink they shouldnt be.

I couldnt give a toss if they followed me around my beat all year round as long as your doing the job as it should be done why fear them.

They do have certain powers that superseed police im sure they dont even need a warrant to search your property ( could be wrong )

If you steal from the job you deserve everythink R/M can throw at you simples

I got bolloked by my DOM years ago cos i was pulled whilst out on delivery by the I/B they asked were my specials were ( had none) and were was my I/D badge. I told him jokingly it was in my coffee jar at home, couple of days later im in the DOMS office explaining why my I/D badge was in the jar.

You are not wrong - from reading stuff on here and elsewhere the IB can detain you if you refuse to allow them to search your property or you, but only till the real Police turn up and then they decide if a search is acceptable under law.

When they come to our office they allways set off the alarm as there room thats linked to all the cameras is in the cellar.
