This morning i was given a PDA with a broken elastic strap, ie..it was unattached at one end. I pointed it out to my LM and he just took the entire elastic off saying that they will not replace them. On the walking bit of my walk the PDA was clicking and flashing away as it rattled around in my bag. Then when i went to use it, it wouldn't work. I eventually got the screen up again, and knocked on the customers door, when he answered I went to scan the item and there was no light. After several attempts, i handed the item to the fella and told him i'd sign for it for him.
Not the first time this has happened. If it ain't that, its the battery fading as the customer is trying to sign repeatedly. The PDA was introduced with the claim by RM that it made us look professional. Well all it makes me look like is an incompetant twat!!!!
Whoever tested these, needs a kick up the arse for not doing his job. They are not fit for purpose.
I still take mine out though, and at the first sign of it playing up, i turn it off and go back to the pen and paper method.........

No elastic on mine either, screen is scratched, its always switching itself off, these PDA's were probably the cheapest crap RM could buy. I've noticed other firms using the same ones.

You should not repeat not be carrying it around with you until they come up with one small enough for a walker to carry unhinderded then leave it in the van.
if your going to go over your time doing this cut off ...simple not your problem !!!

Yep deliver the items before or after you have done the walking bit i do!.

your PDA should have a lock option on to help the walking posties when its kept in their pouch

They are good when they work.

Just to point out that the next time you go out with a pda and the same thing happens again, just do it the old fashioned way pen & paper...then you won't look such an idiot the next time you chap someones door.

They're ok by me, great help when you have bulk drops of 20-30 items and no more having to write out the foreign numbers anymore either, but typical Royal Mail planning they can't seem to come up with a way of carrying them around. It would be so much easier if they supplied a case that would attach to your belt, that you could just drop it in and close it up.

Our office deliver parcel force 24 and 48 s and get fed up of writing out the barcodes could do with a PDA for the parcels. Do they exist?

Do you have an item code for a manager who will act at the will of a humble postie or am i asking to much!.

Can you get new screens as well as screen savers the one i use is that badly scratched you can hardly see the screen, customers complain that they can't seeit to sign properly

Generally a new screen protector cures this - when you take the old one off it's the remains of the glue underneath that makes the screen un-readable, once this is cleaned off and a new protector put in place it's normally as good as new
