How to find out your exact sick record
As the thread says, can we still find out what our sick record is. I have forgotten all my dates and want to know eactly where I stand. All I know is that I am not on any stages but have had a few odd separate days off in 2009. My mate says HR do NOT tell you anymore.

I got a print off when I went into a stage 1 interview - I would just ask the manager if he could get one for you as you want to check the accuracy.
If HR Wont tell you, and the manager wont get you the print off then ask for it under the Data Protection Act as you are entitled under his act to see all the data they have on you. You may have to pay a fee and there are some exceptions to the act but AFAIK RM don't qualify for an exception.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I recently rang HR at sheffield to ask for mine. They said they can't do anything regarding your sick record over the phone anymore. So asked manager and he printed it off for me from the intranet. So it will depend what your manager is like.

There should be a copy of your sick record in your file at your DO.

They won't do me a printout of my sick record as the rainforests are shrinking fast and the amount of paper needed to print my sick record means another tree chopped down ...

Re: How to find out your exact sick record
An individual's right to make a data subject access request (DSAR) to find out what information a data controller holds about him/her is a central plank of the Data Protection Directive (95/46/EC) (implemented in the UK by the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA)).
Data protection legislation extends to most organised manual files and to any data on computer. This has increased the information within scope of a DSAR and, in particular, includes information created informally such as notes on a personal file and e-mails. As a result, DSARs are becoming a common tool in disputes between individuals and companies, particularly employment disutes.
An individual making a DSAR is entitled to be informed by a data controller whether personal data is being processed about him/her and, if so, to be given a description of that data. He/she has a right to know:
* The purposes for which the personal data is processed.
* The recipients or classes of recipients of personal data to whom the data may be disclosed.
* The information comprising personal data.
* Any information available to the data controller on the source of the data.
(section 7(1), DPA).
Making a DSAR:
A DSAR must be made in writing (section 7(2), DPA). Before complying with a DSAR, data controllers are entitled to a fee of up to £10 and to such information as may be reasonably be necessary to satisfy themselves as to the identity of the individual (section 7(3), DPA).
DSARs may be expressed as general requests for all information held on an individual and a request for any of the information within the scope of a DSAR is treated as a request for all information (Regulation 2, Data Protection (Subject Access) (Fees and Miscellaneous Provisions) Regulations 2000). Nonetheless, practical experience suggests that a focused request is more effective.
Data controllers must comply with a DSAR promptly and, in any case, within 40 days of receipt of the request or, if later, within 40 days of receipt of the £10 fee, of evidence to confirm the identity of the individual and of any information necessary to locate the information sought.
