chasing up unpaid money

Can anyone give me some advice on monies owed by royal mail please?

Recently-ish i changed my duty at work and changed from a mornings job to lates. It was done on a temporary basis but is about to be made permanent. Problem is the whole of this time i have not been paid late shift allowance and its been over two months. I have gone to bookroom manager and he managed to get some night shift allowance repaid (i was temp upgrade and didnt receive this either at christmas) but have not heard any news about my late shift allowance.

I phoned sheffield to try and deal with them direct but they told me my line manager or bookroom have to help me but i am entitled to back pay. unfortunetly since that call i have had to take some time off work due to personal reasons and therefore my late shift still isnt being dealt with.

Can anyone recommend a way i can reclaim it quickly or a way to squeeze them so that i can get that money back, my bills are piling up as that makes a difference (im nearly 400 squid down)

Ring your CWU Branch, ask to speak to the best Rep you know.
Explain the situation to him/her, and ask if they can chase it up.

Drevil,

Put in a stage 1 grievance to your line manager:

"Since --- I have been working lates but have not been paid late duty allowance. Please will you pay me the money I am owed."

You should receive a written outcome within 5 working days. The only acceptable outcome is for you to be paid otherwise use the same wording for a stage 2 grievance to your second line manager.

are allowances no longer available to new people or people who change duty? in my office now anyone who does a drivers changeover and does driving duties doesnt get driving allowance anymore only existing drivers and i thought this was the same for most allowances?

I believe the drivers' allowance you are talking about is a reserved rights driving allowance that is no longer paid to new recipients.

There are still a lot of allowances that are paid including late shift allowance. The only difference is that employees who joined after 1st April 2008 receive non-pensionable allowances.

Anyone who thinks they have not been paid an allowance should raise a grievance. If you put it in writing, they cough up.
