Falling Mail Volumes my A***??!!

Just wondering how RM get to this 10% figure. At POMC we're all getting really p*ssed off now - 3+ weeks of Christmas pressure and no let up since then with mailsort and SO many packets. When will it all end so that we have some sort of lull?? OK I know that the snow was a problem, but this is Crap.

Hey Pompey Boy, on earlies, go to where the machines are and look around, then compare what you see now with what you would have seen two or three years ago.

They ran all shift then, but they're silent now... see the picture yet?

No real surprise; after all, what interest do I have in DO/D2D/bikes/shoes/DIMDOMs and all the other postie whinges?

There may well be, but if there was enough "machinable stuff" they'd be running a mech shift. Ten old posties aren't now doing the work previously done by half a dozen sorting machines....

Used to get 2 boxes of code sort now get 3 and a bit!

Used to be on the IPS for 1hr 45 - 2hrs now on it for 2.30hrs - 2.45hrs!

Used to have 1 packet bag now have 2!

royal mail manipulate the figures everyone knows that, they say theres 150 items in a mech box where the actual number on avaerage is almost double that

I'll swap duties with you anyday......i have 8 bags to deliver on a tuesday and saturday 9 or 10 wednesday thursday and friday
but i will say this is due to more packets and heavy flats catalogues actual letter mail is down but not by the 10% management say

It may be "only" 5 bags but they are all what would be classed as overweight! I know the H/S brigade are going to go off on one but so be it. If I was to stick to the correct wight 16kgs then going down to 8kgs etc I would have around 8,9 bags daily!!

One of my walks is like that. Thing is it's spread over 12 miles. Hell of a lot of walking. Not bad for prepping though, unlike the others.

To be honest, what you've said is irrelevant to mail dropping or otherwise. It could well be that you now have 20% more drops, five more streets or whatever. Mail might have dropped (I can't even guess if it has or not) 10% in two years, but we now have six posties doing what ten did two years ago. It's not the overall mailing falling that concerns me, but the amount per walk. Mail volume might have dropped 10%, but they didn't knock down 10% of the houses, they gave me 20% more!

It is more then relevant as I have been on the same walk for two years and in those two years nothing has been added or taken away. And I still seems to have more!!

It's not gone down at all, it's just that Crozier and his merry men have lost contracts to competition so instead of it being 1st and 2nd class it's dhl, business post, etc. Even advertising crap that Crozier brought in is being lost.

We got about 6 1/2 Yorks and a couple of full ones with just Parcels. Bloody EBAY. Christmas presents too!
4 of us delivering today...didn't make a flipping dent in it at all. Loads of Recorded's an Amazons everywhere. Tracked as well...
Soon as they get a bit lower, it's back to full again.
Agree, that the OVERALL level of all types of mail in the past 5yrs, seems to have increased inmmensely.
