How do i do about applying for a transfer to another delivery office?
one manager told me i have to get in touch with my local office i want to transfer to to see if they have any vacant duties is this correct?

i tried that it did not work
i moved 230 miles as mother was ill ,tried for a transfer got reference of my lino, saw DOM at office i wanted told no vacancies................next thing someone taken on, and to top it they delivered to my house, spoke to personel and they said they were part time.........i had said i would take part time ( on my transferr request) if that was all that was available, they then said oh no its only temporary that was in 2001 and they still there,
i left royal mail and then re applied 9 months later and got taken on..............lost 14 years seniority and all

Have you questioned this?
As far as i know if you leave and return within 12 months you keep your seniority.
I could be wrong.
Does anyone know 100%.

Yes i took a career break to study and kept my seniority but lost my duty. Luckily i got back in the same office but thats not even assured now. In fact part-time is all thats pretty guarteed if someone comes back from career back.

i transferred 300+ miles up the country did it through human resources who found me an office by pass the DOM'S they tend to lie a little

Depends on the DOM, when I moved a few years back I went through them without any problem whatsoever. I've heard stories of people waiting a very long time going through HR.

Ive been on the transfer for over 3 years and have re-applied countless times.I do a round trip of nearly 80 miles to work and back.I could handle the trip when we moved but due to unforseen events,Ive had the request in since Nov 06.This was acknowledged in Feb 07!.Fast movers,Pond Street.Anyway,Ive spoke to one of the offices I would like to go to,there are vacancies F/T,P/T and 35 hrs,but my dim says He will not let me go as there are no transfers out of the area.Wont explain why.Only thing he said was theres the f***ing door if you dont like it and your resigination form needs to be on my desk asap!We havent got a union rep as they ..lets say discourage it.Ive been on the job for many years and I think this really is the final nail.Caring firm?yeah right.

You DO have a union rep.
He is your area rep.Get on the phone to your branch asap as your managers position and attitude are unacceptable,even for Royal Mail.

Ive had to go through the other areas rep ...on going thing,but I can see where you are going.My area rep agrees with my dom that I cant go due to buisness needs.Still fighting it though.Stay tuned.

Ok update.Spoke yet again to my rep who told me getting a transfer is not on the cards and Ive more chance of going to the moon!,Exact words.My dim has told me already no transfers in or out of area and if I dont like it theres the door.Phoned welfare with all the needs why I need to transfer,disabled child is my main priority and quite frankly I might as well hit my head against a brick wall as at least I might make a dent in it unlike my application to transfer.Any suggestions where I go from here.Havent been to the office I want to go too as of yet,they say they have the vacancies,welfare and h.r say none exist and frankly I dont know who or what to believe now.

find out the number of the d/o you wish to work out ask your local postie for the office number or look it up in the directory.
give dom a call and see what happens
