I just rang the uniform hotline to order some CATs because I've been waiting for a pair of DMs for 6 months (twice ordered). the kind lady on the other end said there were no CATs left, only DMs. I said, that's weird, my manager's ordered a pair of DMs twice since June last year. then I asked if there were any outstanding orders on my 'file' or whatever it is they look at. and she says nope, nothing. so I put in an order myself for some DMs, which she says should be with me in 3-4 days.

How incompetent are these frigging managers? half of my office are still waiting for footwear because they think the managers ordered boots for them. I slipped last week and got some bad bruising because my magnums were worn down paper thin, so I took my shoes in, refused to wear them and filled out an ERICA. they asked if I was happy wearing my own shoes (knee high commando boots, hell yes) I told them no I wasn't and RM should sort out the footwear situation but there was nothing else I could wear.

I'm going in tomorrow to say how it wasn't an issue ordering boots myself and employees are ordering from their managers in good faith and not getting anything. I realise it was stupid to not phone up myself earlier but you would think a manager has more power in stuff like this. maybe the uniform office think they're a bunch of vvankers themselves.

I've waited 6 months for a pair of DM Boots as well, manager keeps telling m,e they're out of stock!!! Just been to the docs today with aches n pains from wearing these shitty Magnums for years now and hey presto she's gonna write me a letter to exempt me from wearing them, looking forward getting a pair of proper Walking Boots next week, plus getting £30 from RM towards the purchase.. 3 weeks ago over the phone she said she wouldn't but a face 2 face i think she's seen the light cause i showed her the Magnums which are falling apart after only 2 months ( worse pair lasted me 2 days before they started falling apart from the inside and sole came half off on the 3rd day ), so goodbye to the WET feet and the SORE feet and hello comfort.

I just don't get it....When I first joined RM, it took them ages to get my uniform, and when I got the footwear they always sent me shoes even though I ordered the Magmun boots over 4 times, Despite this I did wear the shoes a few times and they like so many other people on here just fell to bits!!!! so anyhow...I ended up buying my own boots from a shop....Yup, I bought a pair of Magnums and still after 2 years they are still watertight, the sole remains intact and they haven't torn, ripped or anything..infact they are so comfy and in great condition for there age...(I still so the same amount of walking)

Why is it so that the same make of boots (minus the stooopid RM logo on the side) can remain in good condition when the same item gets wrecked so easily????


Maybe RM are giving us seconds that didn't quite make the mark........Any thoughts

that's crazy. though I can believe that they request cheaper materials to make the overall shoe cheaper. they must buy a hell of a lot of shoes though you would think they got a bulk discount . i was tempted to buy my own shoes for work but i just couldn't do it ... the principle is the same as using your own car on delivery - royal mail save while we make the sacrifices. do you slip around in them? and does the coating peel off if you dry them on a radiator? and how much did they cost ...?

My boots cost me £50 from an outdoor shop, and they have been comfy from the start, they are now nearly 2 years old and they a scuffed a lot at the front due my cluminess but no peeling and still water tight, the only resemblance they have to the RM ones is that they have about the same amount of grip...so yes i do slip quite often however the grip is still quite good (i.e..not worn down or split)....I know i sound crazy but like I said how can the same brand of boot keep so well when they dont have a logo on it

Hi and welcome to rmc TM1
The reason is that RM have lower spec for their Magnum boots, using cheaper and worse materials.
Magnums can be good, and are used by Police forces and Special Forces, but they have higher specs.
It's RM doing things on the cheap, as usual.

My first pair of Magnums lasted over a year until the sole started wearing through. The 2 pairs I had after that lasted about a month each, seems to be hit and miss with them.

Ive had the cat shoes for a few months now and their still solid.

Does anyone remember the Magnums boots with the zips on? I took them out of the box, put them on went to zip them up for the first time and the zip snapped off!! went to do the other foot and the same thing happend!! what a bag of crap they were!!

Exactly what I was thinking. I did notice that they were made in China. Apparently the ones made in England are better. Also noticed that they do a 'For Life' version. £110 a pair with a lifetime guarantee.

The cat shoes are not much better. First time in 3 years that I have actually worn work issue shoes. They had to be broken in before I could wear them for a full walk. Ten minutes of rain and your feet are soaked. Four months down the line and the sole is almost worn completely flat, not much use in the ice or snow either. Think they should give everyone an allowance to buy their own, then it is up to the individual to make sure they have got the best for their own feet.

The soles of my CAT trainers have worn so much I've no grip left, asked the LM when can I get some replacements, he said maybe next month. I've got the CAT boots but they have cut across the top of one of my feet so badly that I can't wear them until the cuts heal up. Not sure whether to try the DM shoes next.
