Does anyone know how the talks are going?

Or when there will be anouncement?

they only have till the 22nd of this month so i thought we would of heard something before now?

Talks have reached a crucial stage. Whilst talks resumed last week some days were lost due to the adverse weather conditons and the fact that a number of Royal Mail lead negotatiors live in both the Berkshire area and Scotland.both of which were heavily effected by the snow.

The deadline for conclusion of all the operational talks was this Thursday but no one is confident of achieving this date.. The review with take place this Friday and then next week was schuduled for negotations on the benefits.

The most controversial issue still remains Royal Mail`s future National Workplan. Without doubt whilst some will be concerned with longer spans , and other changes, the biggest change will be to the work plan as it drives all of Royal Mail¬s plans going forward including a major rationlisation of mail centres and RDCs and later work arivals into delivery offices including a 3 oclock Saturday finish.

Royal Mail are admant that there will be no deal unless the National Workplan is agreed. The union is in an arkward place as it is the employers right to change workplans. It is akin to a car plant changing from making ford fiesta to a ford focus would the union be able to argue that we want to still make the fiesta and not make the focus?

Some big decisons need to be made in the next few days , there is still a lot to play for.

But the unions postion is that there can not be a deal on the future plan for modensation unless the Government agree to resolve the pension crisis. Otherwise any future deal would be worthless if the pension defcit is not tackled as it will mean the money for benefits and investment is not there.

However i would disagree with this.

First although it is an employers right to change workplans i do not believe that is what is happening.It is more akin to a car plant modernising,changing the way the fiesta is made and the way staff will be rewarded for making it.
I have heard the argument on this site before that we are "fortunate" to be allowed any say in the future workplan as most companies would not even bother.
This is nonsense as only the most short-sighted company would try to move forward with such massive changes without engaging and rewarding it's staff.
RM senior management are not idiots,in my opinion there was never any real plan to de-recognise the union only a plan to make the union and members feel grateful for any scraps thrown from the table.
It is in my opinion time the union took a far harder line at the negotiating table.

glad they are still talking ,we have lost 3 jobs last year another 3 at the end of this month we have 30 yorkie containers full of packets and parcels dating from the 29th ,over 2 weeks for 1st class.have your say results are as bad as ever with the only thing improving is the state of the toilets.we have bullying and harrasement as bad as ever,the union has badly let us down with no news on talks.i have already stopped payments and no longer in the union no more striking for me.

If The Truth speaks the truth 1st posts can often be misleading I find. How come you know such details and are prepared to put them into print we need some hard info to give back to our guys. I thought nothing was agreed until everything is agreed. Why don't we just all agree to work 9-5 Mon-Fri and be done with this whole workplan issue? The Truth are you Roger Poole in disguise?

But this is not an argument about production or manufacturing,the union is not contesting what we deliver.
unless i'm mistaken,the real issue is about money,or cost per item.
what's difficult to convey/understand is,the machinery that RM intends to implement,actually amounts to a substandard
service,
i.e.the workplan we have ensures items are despatched and delivered to the customer at a reasonable time,whereas automation will result in a deterioration in customer expectation.
The problem being the former is the best but not the most cost effective option,this is whats so difficult for the union to
sell,that everyone,including businesses/householders will have to accept later deliveries.
The real issue is should RM remain a benevolent institution,or does it have to become a profitable organisation?
