Help Requested - Annual Leave and Bank Holidays

Hi

I've got two days leave to be carried forward to 2010/11 - both are in lieu days because a Bank Holiday fell on my rest day - Easter Monday (13th April 2009 ) and Spring Bank Holiday ( 25th May 2009 ). All OK there.

However, I took a full weeks annual leave w/c 4th May 2009, and I've not been creditted with the Early May Bank Holiday - 4th May 2009.

I'm sure that in earlier years we did get a Bank Holiday in lieu day when this happened. I maybe wrong.

If this situation stands then, no one should ever book an annual leave week during a week with a bank holiday in it - you'll work one day the following year for free!

Can someone clarify for me please what I'm entitled to?

You should get credited a day in lieu yes. Sometimes you have a fight on your hands to get it, but it's yours.

So go get it.

Not sure if I read the same thing on that site. But, thinking about it again, it's illogical if the Bank Holiday day in lieu is not given when Annual Leave ( or Rest Day ) happens on a Bank Holiday. Not that logic has stopped Royal Mail in the past!

Anyway, thanks for help. If anyone has a Royal Mail document which states this clearly....

I usually try to get at least one if not two bank holidays in my annual leave (two extra days added on to my leave entitlement to make it up to 5 weeks at no extra cost). I've never had any problem receiving the bank holiday credit added to my leave entitlement. Oh, and you can claim then for the current year if you wish.

Have you asked your line manager yet? Might be an oversight, they are good at that.

pinstripe, Many thanks - I really should keep paperwork from previous years to check this myself. I just drifted into annual leave and Bank Holidays by accident. But, I think your idea of deliberately booking annual leave weeks with Bank Holidays in them is pretty good - you get the benefit of a whole week this year and have a shot at more whole weeks leave next year. I'll be on to this first thing tomorrow. Again, many thanks.

The man power plan that your manager is using will automatically give you your day back. Ask for a copy of your leave sheet from the manpower plan and it will show your bank holiday credits. The only time the manager will need to play about with manually adjusting your day in lieu is if your rest day lands on a bank holiday.
